  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm being accepted into the Church at Easter Vigil, and for my confirmation name i'm taking St. Therese of Lisieux. Could someone explain the reason why people take a Saint's name? Isn't it because you have someone in Heaven who you model your life after? And someone to ask for intercession?

God Bless

Ah! It's the other Therese! -laughs- it's kind of like at my church, my RCIA coordinators name is Sr. Jean Rene, and my name is Renee, so I feel like the other Rene/Renee. So some people are like, Are you related to Sr. Rene? Are you her daughter? I should work at my Church when i'm a nun, just to see if people get us mixed up! -laughs- Hope you are able to get to the Rite of Acceptance Therese! What Saint are you taking for Confirmation? St. Therese? God bless! -huggles the other Therese tightly- :priest: <----That's the Pope, not a priest.:prayer: :holy:

Hi ThereseTheLittleFlower!

I was actually baptized and confirmed (it happens together in the EO) when I was an infant . . so I already have a patron saint . . actually, I believe the one I was given would have been St Nina . .

But, I will probably pick another for today . .I can't decide between St Therese, St Theresa of Avila or St Pio . .

But because St Therese had a strong devotion to the Infant Jesus, I find myself leaning towards her . .

I read your profile, and it is really wonderful that you are so on fire for God and your faith, and know you want to be a nun . . when I was your age, I also thought I might become a nun, but I did not have as strong of a desire as you do . . and I allowed it to slip away . . that isn't to say that it is forever though . . I don't know what God will have for me years in the future. Right now, I am married with several children and we are all coming into the Church this Easter!

:)

Yep, that is what she means, she was Eastern Orthodox.

So do you know what order or what convent you are leaning towards. Are you thinking about following in St. Therese's footsteps and becoming Carmelite or is there some other order and spirituality that you find more appealing.

My parish has a heavy Carmelite influence. Most of the pilgrimages that are done at my parish are to Carmelite sites, we also have Carmelite Nuns that help out at the parish, and there are also about 50 lay Carmelites. Our parish's motto is "At every moment do what love requires." Which is a quote from St. Therese.

Are you familiar with the movie that may soon be coming out about the life of St. Therese?

I was interested in the Carmelites, but I visited at Salesian Convent back in January, and I am leaning more towards them, they work with children. I'm hopefully going to go back over the summer and help them (there are only 4 nuns in the Convent, and they wear habits) and some other Sr's from up north with a childrens camp. yes, i'm familiar with the movie, it looks good. I hope it comes out where I live, cause I would go see it. And St. Therese said, that her vocation was love, she proved that you don't have to be a great person to do great things.

Hi Therese, below is the quote from the Catechism which gives a short response to your question.

CCC-2165 In Baptism, the Christian receives his name in the Church. Parents, godparents, and the pastor are to see that he be given a Christian name. The patron saint provides a model of charity and the assurance of his prayer.
