Hey Guys, it's been about 6 or 7 years since I made my Confirmation and chosen a saints name. However, I was wondering if it was worth me changing my Confirmation name, the reason being that, I only really chose it because both my Uncle and my Grandad have it as their confirmation names. I had no idea who the saint was and to this day there is not much information on him that inspires me. My Saint is St Oliver Plunkett.
Also, what is your confirmation name and why did you choose it?

I've read a few different sites of apologists and priests and they have all said you can change your confirmation name. They say that you should pray to God about who you are considering changing your name to and why you are changing it.
May I ask what name you chose? I feel that maybe children are asked too young to choose a name. I doubt that many children that age know much about the Saints and their lives etc. I know me and my school friends didn't.

A martyr is awesome. Get to know your patron. :) You might like him.

St. Oliver Plunkett - Saints & Angels - Catholic Online

I can see how this may fit you:

His many letters showed his determination not to abandon his people, but to remain a faithful shepherd. He thanked God "Who gave us the grace to suffer for the chair of Peter."

Read more, interesting stuff. Talk to him.

Thank you WarriorAngel, I shall take your advice and pray to St Oliver. In some ways he does speak out to me as the Patron Saint of Reconciliation in Ireland, which is actually a close issue to me, however there just isn't really much information about him. Oh well, I shall continue in my search.
Wow, the Grandmother of Jesus and Mother of Our Lady is awesome!

At the time, i just liked the name. Asked my sister if there was a St Ann, and she said yes.
The rest is history - as i discovered who she is.

It all works out, maybe they chose us...? ;)

I chose Christina. At the time I probably did it for my favorite singer. :sorry:

BUT, then I found out that she had a really, really cool story (and we had to write a report for our Bishop) AND, my mom had named the baby she lost Christine, so it fit really well.

Hmm, maybe they do choose us. It's quite strange how later in life I've taken a great interest in the Troubles and persecution in Ireland, also because I have family from Ireland. It is weird how these things fall into place.

That is lovely that you took the name of the sister you lost, what a great way to pay tribute to her.

I chose "Mary" when I was twelve. Then when my husband converted and was later Confirmed (RCIA didn't exist back then so the Sacraments of Initiation were separated) and not knowing my Confirmation name, he chose "Joseph" for his.

I more or less picked mine on a whim (we weren't very well catechised) - an obscure saint who, it later turned out, was patron of the diocese of the city where I later went to university.

Wow, it's so cool how these things happen :D Who is your Saint?

I didn't know that you could change your confirmation name. I've never heard of anyone doing it before. I picked St. John as my confirmation name, after my favorite Uncle John. As it turned out, this became a real blessing, since my Uncle John was very close to the Lord, and when I was a teenager, I went on my first spiritual retreat with my Uncle John and my dad. I now am in the practice of going on a retreat once a year, thanks to my Uncle John who introduced me to this spiritual practice.
