Confirmation Gifts

I've been trying to think of ideas for a confirmation gift for my son who will be confirmed soon. I think this is an important occasion in ones life, where he publicly confesses his faith and his fellowship with fellow believers. As such I think a gift of commemeration is in order.

Just wondering if any of you might have any ideas? Or perhaps you remember a confirmation gift which gives you special memories of that day?

Hmm. . .when I was confirmed, the stuff I got was the stuff from AAL. . .LOL. .but it is special to me. . .

Maybe something like that. . a cross or a commemorative Bible?

Rod...I'll offer a few suggestions....

If your son doesn't have a good "adult" study bible...now is the time. You could also consider a wall crucifix or cross, or pen set.

Of course...one of these gifts padded with a check, some cash or a Best Buy gift card is always appreciated.

when I was confirmed (many, many moons ago) I got a Luther Rose pin and a Bible (NRSV)...of course I was 11...I kinda like the idea of getting a copy of "Luther" on DVD and maybe a copy of the Book of Concord...

One can consider a Luther's Small Cathachism Annotated by Edward W. A. Koehlar, special jewlery, or maybe a Christian art print or painting. My own parents gave me a book entitled Confirmed in Christ by Roy G. Gesch on my confirmation.

Many moons ago? And the NRSV in the same sentence? LOL I was confirmed not long after the original RSV was published, so much so that our church would not give a gift to the confirmand with a "new" untried translation. Now that is many moons ago!

Actually...your right...mine was just RSV...still have it...about 23 years old...

My church gave me a copy of our hymnal. I got my RSV Bible after completing 6th grade Sunday School. (about 26 years ago)

I received a gold necklace with a cross pendant. Perhaps a more masculine equivalent would be appropriate? (the cross was very pretty and dainty and delicate... definitely feminine jewellry)

Rod, I'm really glad you asked this question because our daughters will be completing their confirmation class soon and I'd love to give them something nice to remember such a special moment in their lives, but I just wasn't sure what to give them. Everyone says give them bibles, but they already own 3 or 4. Everyone gave you some nice ideas.

My Wife and I had a meeting with Pastor today...he wants to meet with us about 4 or5 times before we offically join the Church...I have watched this thread pretty closely myself looking for ideas for gifts for my wife when we become offical...

Well...for girl gifts I am extremely partial to the idea of giving a crucifix to wear. Gold or Silver depending upon what the girl normally wears. If both...a gold crucifix with a sterling corpus can't be beat!

ok I just got confirmed a couple years ago and the things that meant the most to me was my purity ring, adult study bible, cross pendant necklace, and my prayer book. I hope that helps ya out a little.

My husband got a Bible (he still has it) when he was confirmed. I don't remember if I got anything or not. I don't think so. I did get my sons study Bibles for their confirmations.
