Well I taught my first confirmation class this morning and I am still alive. ;)

I am finding I do better if I teach socratically than lecturing.

Good for you, Scott! It has to be an adult class, right?

Wait until you get to instruct kids.

I've been instructing my daughter myself under Rev's guidance and it's truly a wonderful experience. It's been the most rewarding and uplifting bonding we've ever had. I am blessed with a child who honors me and whose heart beats for Jesus.

Actually it is 7th grade kids. I am subbing for my fieldwork pastor. I had a pre-arranged lesson plan on the third commandment.

 You mean you actually have prepared lesson plans? Imagine that. Sem. is doing a colossal disservice to any parent sending their child to a DELTO/SMP pastor to be catechized.

I'm assuming these kids are enrolled in a Lutheran school.

Yes it is a Lutheran School. I wish that every Child in the Lutheran Church could attend one of these schools. our children would be far better off in their understanding of the catechism.

Hehe, our children would be far better off - period! Glad you survived your first class - those 7th graders can be challenging - (coming from a stepmom of a 13-yr old)

That church I've been going to has one of those delto or whatever it is person. I don't know who's teaching the confirmation class. Guess I'm going to have to be nosy and ask.

I don't know how I missed this thread.

I absolutely love teaching confirmation class. During one of my 4th year interviews at sem I was asked what I was looking forward to the most in the parish and I said "teaching junior confirmation." The dean was surprised at that because most guys dread it. I don't know why. It's great!

Every spring I lead a confirmation retreat weekend for our circuit congregations. It's based upon some part of the catechism and involves some intense instruction by the different pastors in the circuit. The kids love it and can't wait to come back the next year.

We just had a confirmation at the church I attend and it got me thinking ahead to when Jeremiah goes through confirmation. To help him, I did some seaching on the internet and found a set of internet broadcasts that present the small catechism in mp3 format. I intend to upload these onto the computer in his room and hopefully he will listen to them and learn. Naturally I expect that his cousin Malachi will also listen and learn (Malachi stays with us during the week). Hopefully they will become familiar enough with the catechism as to not give thier catechism teacher too much trouble.
