  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In two weeks, we're going on a weekend with the 50 children of our confirmation class of this year. Today we received the program, I'm quite enthousiast about it. Please note that, although prayer isn't mentioned in the schedual, nearly all of the activities start with prayer (and thus it isn't put on seperately)

Friday
Arrival and showing rooms: 19.00
19.15: dinner + dishes (they help with the dishes)
20.00: opening + general commitments
20.30:torch procession to statue of Mary in the woods and candle light prayers
21.30: feast by the fire and singing of the songs we've already learned for the day of confirmation.
22.00 wash and bed...

Saturday
8.oo: waking
8.30 breakfast + dishes
9.00 talk about forgiveness
9.30 confession, afterwords, workgroups of handicrafts and drama about the story of the prodigal son as well as liturgical preparations and choir
12.00 small presentation of what was done in the workgroups
12.30 dinner + dishes
14.00: Preparation game about faith, while walking to the monastery. (they select sets of questions and during the walk they're encouraged to go talk to 5 different persons and exchange questions and opinions. A catechist, a best friend, someone they don't really know, etc..)
14.30 going for the monastery + game
15.30: introduction + conversation with oportunity for questions etc about the religious life. (mother superior herself will be answering those)
16.30 small meal in the convent
17.00 Vespers
18.30 (after returning from Vespers) dinner + dishes
19.30: Evening game: in ten groups of five the students make assignments (each about faith) but first they need to find the catechists that HAVE the assignments. *G* They can only get two assignments at the same time,a nd then they need to go in search again: searching through the darkness for the light.
22.00: washing and bedtime

Sunday:
8.00 getting up and cleaning up
8.45: breakfast + dishes
9.00: outside play
10.00 singing together, closing prayer, group picture
10.30: leaving
11.30 arriving in Antwerp
12.00 Family Mass with 'laying on the cross' and name giving
13.00 small reception
13.30: the end, all of us confirmation teachers go have some dinner together!

I think if they've done it before with that timetable, I wouldn't worry. When we take children to Lourdes, we don't leave much empty time because otherwise they get bored. Things seem to flow well in the timetable and 8 am isn't so late for getting up!
Praying for a good weekend for you all
