  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I really wish the parishes around me offered a little more than 1 hour per week for Confession. I know that I can always schedule one with a priest, but what sort of message does it send when a church only gives 1 hour out of every 168 hours for Confession? This Sacrament is much more important than that.

They probably only schedule that much because not that many people go unfortunetly. If the number of people went up to where they couldn't get all the people done in one hour, they would schedule more time.

Where I go to confession, they do it almost daily. This works out very well for us part-timers who are often forced to work weekends.

I think its the opposite. I think when the parish says, "we only devote 1 out of 168 hours to hearing Confession," the layman gets the notion that its no big deal. Mass is every day, often multiple times, and everyone knows that thats a big deal. But I think a lot of parishes need to emphasize the importance of Confession, and the first step would be to say "we are hearing Confession 3 days this week..." or something along those lines.

If, by the grace of God, I am called to Holy Orders, I will ask someone to let me take a parish near you. I will give, by the strength God gives me, more than one hour.

A priest is only obligated to give one hour to Confession every week. At my parish, you have Confessions by scheduling, on Saturdays, Tuesdays, and First Fridays. It's a total (on most weeks) of two hours a week.

Don't forget that our Priests are also visiting the sick, doing funerals, Masses, etc.

Pray that our Priests catch the fervor of one like St. John Vianney, who was in the Confessional eighteen hours a day.

My parish only offers it one hour a week, but other parishes in my area offer it more often. One priest in my deanery is in the confessional before every daily Mass, an hour on Saturdays, and one day each month he's in there every hour on the hour during the parishes Eucharistic Adoration day. He's a really good confessor, too. I really think that the more available a priest makes himself for confession makes people less hesitant to approach the sacrament.
