CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
Computer Buying Help Needed

For anybody buying a new computer I would give this advice:
Can you hold out until the end of next year? Because Windows are then introducing their new Vista system then which will be a huge improvement on everything which has gone before!

The improvements are getting smaller and smaller.
Win 3.1 to Win95 was huge. Win95 to Win98 was still pretty good. WinME was a step backwards. Win98 to Win2k was starting to get bland. WinXP was basically an updated Win2k with embedded useless copyright measures that just wastes everyone's time. And Vista is just a way for MS to trick people into accepting DRM and giving away their rights.

Do not buy Dell. Dell may be less of a ripoff, but it is still a ripoff. I'm trying to remember what my friend got. He got a monster gaming laptop. Granted, it was like 2500-3K, but I doubt dell even makes a laptop that good and dell has ones going for 3500-4K. I'm thinking compaq, but I'm not sure if that's right. I need to ask him, but you can get good laptops for great prices.

I can remember how disappointed I was when I used W98 for the first time. It crashed much more frequently than W95. I'm not crashing too often on this XP except on some programs I accidently do infinite loops into memory hogging objects. But anyways I wouldn't be too concerned about getting the up-to-date stuff from MS. It's probably so full of embedded encrypted pipelines to Homeland Security, the CIA, BLT, FBI, YMCA, KFC, M9, OKDOKEE, Mosad and Victoria Secrets online shopping network I would steer away from it.

I agree that without knowing if who made it and the part manufacturers, we can not say if it is good pricing or not. If they are from IBM, take it. It is the cheapest it will get. Of course, if you buy a desktop it is always cheaper.
I buy computers alot. I agree DELL is the way to go. It is very little maintenance. HP has been getting worse. Toshiba seems to be very stable if you do not mind bulky. Compaq is gone.
To answer the gaming laptop question. It is probably Alienware. They are the BEST PC computers. Macs are the best all time in craftsmanship. Next year will be different when Intel takes over making their chips instead of IBM.
If I were you, since you are a student. Look for education prices. If you work for a school, get your education price as well.
