  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When my youngest niece, Breann, was 3 years old she, along with her mom (my sister) attended a work function weekend with me. One morning, we were all sitting together at the breakfast table with a group of people from my work and Breann turned to me and really loudly said, Aunt D, I see Jesus. Of course the table went quiet and everyone looked at me and I said, You do! Where do you see Jesus? and Breann said, In you!

That was the nicest compliment I have ever received.

off the top of my head, from a recently married guy friend who was also my biblestudy leader: "You are going to make some guy very happy one day."

I loved to talk to him about theology and stuff.

cheesy line I know but I really respected his opinion and felt he really meant it and he said it just out of the blue so it meant a lot to me and no one had actually said anything like that to me before.

What's the best and nicest compliment you have ever recieved? from a real life person? not online
My favorite compliment I ever receive is, "Your cool!" (When people sincerely mean it and go outta their way to say it.) Now that's awesome! :)

I got told by a lady at church today thhat she loved the way I praised God. That is the best compliment I have ever heard.

I also got told I was organised (not one of the qualities that I see in myself). Other than that I am a great teacher and that my students love me. Getting complimented about my job is awesome too. As well as being told I am lovable... that is always nice to hear

"You'll make a good priest"

Clearly, these people didn't not know me well :)
haha - I once had a guy ask me if I wanted to be a pastor's wife. Come to think of it, tho - he was in seminary at the time, so maybe it was a pick up line??

:p

Oh yea that reminds me. I've been told several times by people that they love to see me worship God or be around me when I worship. Stuff like that. Its a bit embarrassing because I'm not trying to impress anyone or put on a show and in fact my worship with God is a very intimate private thing....if I have a choice in the matter I prefer to be in the back of the room or in a dark corner. However to hear that it encourges others when I worship is cool. I just have to not think about the fact that people can indeed see me...lol

This thread made me remember some truly meaningful compliments I've received from people in my life. Talk about a self-esteem boost.

One of the ones that sticks with me right now is being told I inspired this person to change and become better and closer to God. It was years ago, but it floored me when I heard it. Now I only wish I was still like that today.

I don't know, I've never been able to take compliments very well. I try to stay low-key and humble, and I feel as though compliments feed my ego. Of course, compliments are better than insults... :)

Most of the time I get "you're such a nice guy". Of course, then I feel very guilty because I always feel as though I'm not nice enough, I've been involved in alot of bad stuff in my day...

I'll often also get compliments on my looks, I guess it's somewhat unusual for a young guy to be sporting a beard like mine...
