Complacency

We have all dealt with it at one point in time or another. It is like a diease that rots our spiritual life.

I was reminded of a quote today "That which we obtain too easily, we esteem too lightly."

I have a theory on complacency.

With Salvation... we do nothing to earn it, nothing to keep it. So in essence we have obtained it too easily and therefore esteem it too lightly.

However, I think when God asks us to sacrifice something... not in order to keep our salvation, but to grow closer to him... at THAT moment, we have a decision to make. We can choose to sacrifice or not....

If we sacrifice, we move from obtaining our relationship with God too easily, to having to "work" in order to grow closer to Him.. and we learn to esteem our relationship with him at a higher level.

Once saved, always saved?

There are pieces of scripture that seem to support this belief.

Simply believe, and the gift is yours.

Knowledge and understanding on this subject come by rightly dividing the word.

IMHO, I believe that there is an overwhelming perponderance of evidence in the Bible supporting the belief that our salvation is not yet final, and that we can lose, or forfiet,our salvation.

Please understand that I don't mean be antagonizing or argumentive.

Actually I agee with 99.9 percent of everything you said in your post. I'm sorry for neglecting to mention that. I think it was very well written. Not just gramatically, but well written in the sense that you were able to put into words what you believe in your heart.

My comment "does it line up with scripture to say that we do nothing to keep our salvation" was designed to lead you to the scriptures. To search out for yourself rather or not what you've learned is the truth.

Understanding the truth comes by building "precept upon precept" (Isaiah 28:9-10).

Well, I have learned for a long time now that I don't take everything someone says, including pastors at value, until I look into myself. I have looked into my belief and my belief stands.

Well here's my thoughts. I think I have similar views.

However, I don't think salvation is so easily earned.

It comes through faith, and true faith isn't easy to come by. Not just saying you have faith, but believing in Christ's resurrection with all your heart.

To keep that faith though, we all have to build a personal relationship with Christ.

If we choose not to make the sacrifice of service for him, what does that tell us about our relationship?

What sort of faith is that? Can we be so sure of our salvation?

Matthew 25:34-45, helps me.

I really don't think you have to worry about complacency though.
