Compassion for Larry Craig?

His business is his business until he starts damaging the lives of others. Then his business is absolutely fair game.

Some of us feel that Craig defended a sacrament, or the marital tradition, or family values.

Others simply don't want same-sex couples to receive the same tax benefits reserved for those with familys raising children.

He was voted into office and obviously the people he represented were not offended on his vote against gay marriage nor his views as he served, elected, for nearly thirty years. He did his job.

If you want someone to change the laws to fit your perceptions, work on getting your camp to vote lawmakers in who will create and pass the legislation.

Craig made his voters (most of them) happy.

I have done so, and will continue to do so.

BUT - it makes no difference that a majority of people like what he did - not when it hurts people.

Almost 3 years now. And he is not alone. He has many friends and family.

It's cool to have freinds and family to support you.

I wasnt in an intimate relationship with someone (or any for that matter) till I had almost turned 22 (im 23 in a few weeks). I firmly had convinced myself for a variety of reasons (I admitedly didnt believe homosexual sex was a sin) that I was never going to have a relationship and I would always be celibate.

However, after 6 or so years of this, all the while being surrounded by a loving family and having freinds I was incredibly depressed. Theres a level of intimacy that your freinds and family cant provide and in the end I had to abandon my plans of celibacy for my own mental wellbeing. I was just cripplingly lonely for someone to give me that something extra a romantic relationship brings.

Now maybe I just have rubbish self control, and maybe things are all always ok for some gay people who want to resist their temptations. However I know it was difficult enough after 6 years that I was lost in depression and it saddens me that anyone else may subject themselves to that when its not really what they want deep down.

Thus I find it really difficult praying for celibate gay people who are celibate due to religious convictions to actually remain outside a relationship. What I do, do though is pray they find happiness, wherever it may lie.

Because YOU are the one who brought up the subject.

In the context of Larry Craig doing it and a whole lot of other gay folks giving testimony that they have also.

And since we don't fall into the category that you described, you must be describing first hand knowledge of your own? Just a guess.

Nice try. But deny it all you want, but there are indeed gay folks in this forum who know that there is a subculture of gay folks doing what Larry Craig was trying to do just as there is a subculture of heterosexuals having sex on an airplane a mile up.

The legendary "Mile High Club." But don't most passenger planes fly much higher than a mile up?

I believe that God exists and therefore I pray. I don't find it hard to pray for people who disagree with my point of view because God has commanded it.

What your post says to me is that you hold personal/sexual relationships above your Love for God.

Perhaps a subculture - but it IN NO WAY describes the vast majority of gay people.

Sorry if that disappoints you. But most of us are normal, healthy people, living wholesome lives with our partners.

Many of us continue serving God and the church...God only knows why, given the horrendous treatment we are shown by supposed "christians." (Consider what transpired in Nigeria this past week: The Anglican Bishop of Uyo, Nigeria, Isaac Orama, has publicly assaulted the "activities of homosexuals and Lesbians", and described those engaged in them as "insane people''. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) given on 2 September 2007 he said: "Homosexuality and lesbianism are inhuman. Those who practice them are insane, satanic and are not fit to live because they are rebels to God's purpose for man." The statement revealed the criminal nature of the policy of Churh of Nigeria to dehumanize and demonize Gay people and instigate hatred and violence against them.

No sir. Gay people, partially through what we endure at the hands of "christians," are a powerful testament to the Living God.

Such horrible treatment is not at the hands of the majority of Christians, despite what you may think. Most Christians, even those who think homosexuality is wrong, would never agree with the things Isaac Orama said. Sorry if that disappoints you.

I did not say or imply that it was MOST Christians.

I merely said it exists - undeniably so. And it speaks poorly for the rest of Christendom.

Sorry if that disappoints you.

Well, it doesn't disappoint me because I was already aware of that.

Sorry if that disappoints you.
