  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is a thread for artists to post their line work for the purpose of people coloring it. Anyone posting line work (must be own work), is allowing others to modify and color the image.

If you color some of the line work here, post a photo of your work so we can see how different people approach the same lines! You can use digital, crayon, colored pencil, gel pen, or whatever else you want. Feel free to enhance the basic drawing, add backgrounds, etc.

First tell me how you did that? :) Love the Bulldog

The Flamingo was pencil, just photographed and cleaned up. The others were done in a vector drawing package.

However folks want to do their line work is fine.

If you have never used a vector program they enable you to change the shape of lines and the nodes, or anchor points, that the lines connect to. This is great for folks who want to do art, but struggle with mechanical dexterity or getting smooth lines. Because you can go back and refine the lines you don't have to get things right the first time. As long as you have patience you can get it right over time. Of course, if you can draw well, then you can just do it quickly without a ton of adjustments. But even then it is nice to be able to change it later. It is also great for drawing with a mouse. I have a pen tablet, but if I don't want to get it out the vector program lets me work with the mouse and clean up the line later.

Adobe Illustrator is the industry standard. It is a bit expensive for most. I use an old version of Corel Draw.

If you want to try it out there is a very good open source program that you can use for free, inkscape.

The advantage of vector images is that they can scale easily as they are not based on individual pixels, but on mathematical equations. They usually look smoother and cleaner, but not necessarily as detailed on the shading, though there are exceptions with mesh shading, etc.

It lends itself well to logos and cartoony work.

Here are some examples with color:

oh, those are really good.

I've got a Corel package but it looked to complicated to try out. Now I have a new laptop with win10 and it has something called Paint 3D. I tried working with that but gave up. I'm not used to working with layers since I haven't had photoshop since the 90's :)

Back then I had an old computer but I also had a stylus that I could use in Paint and photoshop. I remember it had a ruby tip on it. Haven't had something like that in awhile.

I guess I'm too old to learn about things that complicated.

I'll try one of your line drawings though, I think I can handle that! :)

Corel did take a little while to figure out, but is not bad once you learn it. I think they have youtube videos explaining things too!

I have paint 3d but have not tried it yet. Depending on which Corel package you have it likely has photopaint. That is similar to Photoshop (or it could have Paint Shop Pro) and would likely be superior to Paint 3d.

This is the best I could do with the regular paint application. It didn't copy and paste as a line drawing, I wish I knew how to accomplish that, so I had to deal with all the gray pixels and work at 400%. But here it is.

I like the color scheme! Sorry about the pasting issue. I think it is treating them as a transparent background.
