What is meant by "Communion of the Saints"?

Well, communion is being brought together as one. With regard to the Saints this would mean in the stadium. Wait, in God. Wrong Saints.

Back on track. Saints are those that have died in God, such as Stephen the Martyr, St. Augustine, the Apostles, and so on. We have been promised that we will be with God once we die in the NT. So, when and if we die in God, we will go join all the holy people, the saints, who have died in God before us and also join with God. Hence, the Communion of Saints.

Through Baptism we pass from death to life; death no longer has dominion over us. Christians must believe that there is no real distinction between the believer in human life and after human life. Saints, living or dead, are indistinguishable before God.

From the Catechism of the CC:

953 Communion in charity. In the sanctorum communio, "None of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself."487 "If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it."488 "Charity does not insist on its own way."489 In this solidarity with all men, living or dead, which is founded on the communion of saints, the least of our acts done in charity redounds to the profit of all. Every sin harms this communion.
