  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

People say it wrong in many parishes, Christy.
I've read a few online parishes' bulletins with 'Eucharist Minister" in describing these lay persons.

Some of you might say I am quibbling.

But a title is a title.
I don't call my paridh priest 'Bishop" or Cardinal", because those are not his titles.

I don't call the deacons "nuns", either.

LOL Next time I see the Deacon I will say "Hello sister!"

In defence of the layman...

I agree with all here that the priest has a special grace endowed unto him. He is a man called to serve, ordained and blessed. I can understand truely that people wish to receive Eucharist from their priests.
Howevr, in many posts, it sounds like you are almost... snubbing.. the extraordinary ministers, or other layman that assist in your church. And you pride yourself not to 'settle for second rate grace'.
Extra Ordinary Ministers have been endowed with a special grace, and a calling by God. That calling is not less, nor is it less worthy of your respect. God works through them. And I am frankly proud and grateful to have been one for so many years.
I have not the wish nor the audacity to compare myself to the priest. My task was humbler. But I pray that through my humble service God has reached many people.

When next you go to mass and think of the Eucharist and going in the priests line to receive the 'full blast' of Grace from him... I hope you will look at the extraordinary minister and will remember that, although his calling or his grace, or even his right to handle the body of Christ may be less in your eyes, he/ she is someone who has devoted much of her/his life to the service of God. And that in it, she/he too is endowed with a grace you might envy and might wish to receive. Even if it is not 'full blast'.

I felt bad about it because it was wrong for me to take the host in such a disrepectful manner. There are these little pillbox like things called pixes where a Eucharistic minister places the host to take to someone. At the time of course, I didn't know about these things let alone the Real Presence. As I said, I didn't really sin. But being scrupulous and all, it doesn't matter...I have a guilt complex:sigh:
Look, I'm Catholic too, I can feel guilty about anything. And, yeah, you didn't have the proper training.

But I'm at a loss to understand any disrespect. Your desire to help was virtious and you got the thing to its destination. I'd say you did ok.

The problem with scrupulousness is that it tends to be paralyzing. I've studied the lives of enough saints to know you don't get canonized by following all the rules.
