What are some of the misconceptions people have about your faith?

One of the one I hear most often is that food is kosher because
it is blessed by a rabbi.

I had that misconception too! Then I read a thread here at CF and learned otherwise. It was very interesting.

Common misconceptions about my faith:
We're Jewish.
We're Roman Catholics in disguise.
We worship saints and icons.

After meeting with a Reform Rabbi once, my husband came home and said something about the rabbi telling him that pots and pans had to be blessed for the food cooked in them to be kosher. I asked him if he understood the rabbi correctly, and he says he thinks he did.. is there something like that?

Chavak,It seems jews drink non-jew children blood.I am not Joking. This is Accroding to some Muslim organisations.probably some others also hold this view.

Saudi Government Daily: Jews Use Teenagers' Blood for 'Purim' Pastries
Jews "must drink from the blood of Muslims… but mix it with soda water" - Jihad Watch

It's just the old blood liable rehashed. That is where some Christians claimed that Jews kidnapped a Christian boy, slaughtered him, and used his blood to make matzah.

Certain cooking/food prep/dishes/utensils that did not come from a Jew have to be toiveled-dunked in water (either a mikveh or some other free flowing source of water) before it's first use, although it's my understanding the food is still
kosher if you don't do it. There is a blessing that is said when you toivel most utensils, so maybe that is what confused
your husband.

That's been around since the middle ages.....either we were killing Christian children to drink their blood (which is forbidden by the Torah) or we were
using it to make matzah. I'm surprised any Muslims would believe that in
this day and age.
Haven't heard of it being used for hamantashen (Purim pasteries)....guess
that's a new twist on things.

I've eaten hamantashen, matzah pizza, and chocolate covered matzah.... yummmmmm!
Yummmmm indeed....good thing we don't eat them all year round or they
would lose their "specialness"...plus we would all gain a lot of weight.

If Christian antisemitism is so successful that even Muslims begin to imitate it, whom does it reflect on the worst?

Honestly, PHenry... I would say both... anyone who believes things just because they make a good story (despite the damage that can be done by them).

I don't know how common this is, but the one thing that drives me more insane than anything else is the claim that Muslims are allowed to lie to promote their religion. The first time I heard it (last year), I actually cried for a few days. It was one of the most emotional weeks of my life. It was shocking for me to realize that people I had been discussing religion with doubted that I was lying and not sincere in my expressions of my evaluation of my religious texts simple on account of my being Muslim and their false belief that my religion allows me to do that.

One misconception I struggle with is that all Christians are cardigan wearing nerds that are offended by someone swearing around us. I am so the opposite to that. I burst out laughing if somone apologies for swearing in front of me. I have worked in trade for many years its all I have heard. Most Christians that don't take themselves too seriously are much like everyone else.

It reflects worst On Allah of Quran.

Antisemitism of some Christian groups has no backing in Christian theology where as the islamic books like Quran and hadiths spew hatred On Jews.

I've heard that before-that Muslims can lie and sign false treaties etc
in order to promote Islam and to deceive the enemy. It's amazing what
people can believe about those of other faiths.

For muslims, it would be that islam:
  • is a peaceful religion
  • does not condone death to all christians and others
  • has the same god as that of the Jews

I don't understand. I am a christian and I seriously try to gain as much Judaic knowledge as I can so as to celebrate the 7 feasts of the Most High G*d. There are today sects of Christians doing the same thing and we love the Jews and try to bless them daily, monetarily and spiritually. Do I need to bring up history of the last 100 years to substantiate the numbers? I would include a website to a Jewish Messianic site but I don't wish to have muslims visit it. That would be disastrous.
