What are some of the most common, yet greatest, discoveries of your choice of science (physical, biological, ecological, geological, etc.)?

What are some of the greatest challenges to new discoveries, or pitfalls that many scientists go through?

And what new discoveries or needs are yet to be made/met from your choice of science?

What are some of the most common, yet greatest, discoveries of your choice of science (physical, biological, ecological, geological, etc.)?

I'm torn between the harnessing of electricity and the discovery of antibiotics. The discovery of DNA is right up there of course, but I can't even imagine life without my computer.

What are some of the greatest challenges to new discoveries, or pitfalls that many scientists go through?

IMO that would be "group think". Humans tend to get "stuck in a rut" which is where astronomy is stuck today IMO.

And what new discoveries or needs are yet to be made/met from your choice of science?

Astronomers have yet to "discover" that we live inside of an electric universe. I think that revelation will change the way we think about and engage in space travel in the future.
