Mark 7:24 From there He arose and went to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And He entered a house and wanted no one to know it, but He could not be hidden. 25 For a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit heard about Him, and she came and fell at His feet. 26 The woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phoenician by birth, and she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 But Jesus said to her, "Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs." 28 And she answered and said to Him, "Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the children's crumbs." 29 Then He said to her, "For this saying go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter." 30 And when she had come to her house, she found the demon gone out, and her daughter lying on the bed. NKJV

Most commentaries on Mark7; 24-30 are wrong. I have not read one that loudly proclaimed that Jesus never referred to the lady or her daughter as a dog. The ones that I have read say the end justified His means. In other words Jesus called her or her daughter a (pet)dog to get her to recognize Him a Lord.

Leviticus 19:33 'And if a stranger dwells with you in your land, you shall not mistreat him. 34 The stranger who dwells among you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God. NKJV

Deuteronomy 10:17 For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe. 18 He administers justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing. 19 Therefore love the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. NKJV

Jesus would not have shown love for His neighbor by referring to her or her daughter as a dog.

Let me remind you about the man born blind.

John 9:2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" 3 Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. 4 I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world." NKJV

The Syro-Phoenician ladies daughter was demon possessed to bring Jesus glory.

Acts 17:23b Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you: 24 God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. 25 Nor is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. 26 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, 27 so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28 for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.' NKJV

The woman's daughter was demon possessed because it was her spiritual experience to bring her and her mother to Jesus.

Jesus said to the woman: It is not good and take your daughter's spiritual experience and cast it to the dogs.”

Her response shows that she was one of His. Her reply : "didn't her daughter eat from her table."

A lot of people over the centuries have encountered racist evangelists and church organizations. Especially during colonialism. Those who believed in God anyway are given the same praise from God despite the messenger not being like God at all. Much like how Thomas was blessed to see Jesus, but more blessed are those who don't see yet believe.

Because she responded in faith despite being disrespected, her faith had made her daughter whole. Jesus did teach to treat those who treat you with contempt with grace, she did this naturally and may not have been aware that this was something he taught. There is also the case of the soldier (Centurian) who said that by the same virtue as the chain of command, he knows if Jesus says it will happen then it is done .. Jesus said this was an example of great faith that not even Israel had. This great faith resulted in the servant of his household being healed.

That's what comes to mind regarding that passage.

If Jesus called her or her daughter a dog it was a sin. Jesus did not sin. It is condescending to refer to someone as a dog. No Jew would have liked any of their relatives as a dog. The ends do not justify the means.

Pretty sure more is going on here than the translators let on.

BELIEVING WHAT THE LORD SAYS (MARK 7:24-30) Pages 3-18
Full written article here The Lord Loves Persistence – Grace Evangelical Society
In the Gospel of Mark there are a number of minor characters who are given as examples for us to follow. Two of them are a Syrophoenician woman and Bartimaeus (Mark 7:24-30; 10:46-52).

Even though they did not have to persist as long as the widow in Luke 18 did, they are both models of persistence. In the case of the woman, she had good reason to think that Jesus would not grant her request. She wanted Him to cast a demon out of her daughter. But she was a Gentile. Her people were enemies of the Jews. Her background was one of idolatry.

But she had heard that He was merciful. She knew He had the power to heal her daughter. She recognized that she was not a part of God’s chosen people, but she also knew that the power of the Jewish Christ was so great that even if she got the “leftovers” of that power, her daughter would be healed. She did not mind playing second fiddle to the favored Jews.
