I just listened to a scientist on NPR speak of an asteroid that was discovered about the time the tsunami devastated Indonesia. It is 300 meters around and they estimate that in 2029 it will pass within the orbit of our communications satellites and if it passes through a particular spot called the keyhole it will definitely hit earth in 2036, landing in the Pacific somewhere between Hawaii and California. This will result in a tsunami of untold proportions. With that much warning no one has to die, but there will be extensive property damage.
He also claims that legislation is presently before Congress to consider ways of deflecting it so it does not pass through that keyhole.
