I thought I would post an introductory post of sorts here too. I have been lurking lately because I have been getting back into the swing of things with Word of Faith.

I was introduced to it back in August 1994 via Andrew Wommack's tapes. (He was on the only radio station we could pick up while driving through mountains. ha!) I don't think I ever got truly grounded in the basics of the teachings even though I heard many many messages (Wommack, Copeland, Duplantis, Yandian, Capps, etc; attended Mark Crow's church for awhile). It was mainly something my family got into, and their focus was more on 'getting' than 'getting grounded', if you know what I mean. (The family has since drifted off to The Secret.)

So not grounded plus dealing with problems and not having satisfactory answers...Then I got the internet and found the anti-WoF sites saying Kenyon influenced everyone, and he was actually some metaphysical nut. I think it was through lurking here I saw someone mention Joe McIntyre's E.W. Kenyon and His Message of Faith: The True Story book. I have been reading it and have been relieved to find out that he wasn't a metaphysical nut. It was a bit disappointing to see I had swallowed unsubstantiated hearsay and let it derail my life for so long, but it's time to get up and get going again.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to discussing and learning much here. I have found the posts suggested teachers, teachings, and books to be very helpful.

That's sad. I studied "The Secret" before I was a Christian. I soon realized it was true. And then I would never practice it because I could see how evil it was.

It's essentially going after the desire in our heart. But if that desire is evil? Then basically you're praying for the evil locked away in our heart to be fulfilled. It will destroy our life if those ambitions come to pass from our heart, and we'll yield a crop of death and destruction in our life.

I had a wrong prayer answered before I was a Christian. I prayed, and it was a bad prayer, and the devil answered it. Nearly killed me.

We're blessed if a bad prayer doesn't get answered.

Andrew Wommack is my favorite instructor.

I think the biggest problem with the WoF, at least for me, is they failed to minister to me enough about believing in our heart. In how they teach, it comes across to me quite often if we just confess past our unbelief it will work out, and I think there is a truth to that, but I just take it too far. I can confess like it is OCD. I'll confess and confess, and see diddly squat for results because I'm bound up in fear and confess for the wrong reasons.

Confessing for the right motives is equally important as what we're confessing... for the word confessed vainly, is vain.

A lot of them are also stuck on about believing for jets. I am not in unbelief concerning prosperity, and so I have thought about this a great deal. Then I realized, "God would certainly want us to have our own airplanes, for he has given us all things." But then I realized if we got to confess for stuff, there's better things than airplanes.

Maybe God has spoken that to some of them as a demonstration for us as to how big we can believe. But I was confessing for a few million dollars so I could give it away. And then a spirit came to me quoting me a prophecy of some several million I would get. And then I'm like, "It's not enough, I'm richer than that."

What I'm saying is, there are a lot of things to confess, but some things we can confess aren't good because they limit God, or they're not what God wants for us. I think WoF misses this sometimes in terms of having correct motives for what we confess.

I agree. It may seem like The Secret and Word of Faith have a lot in common, but, imo, it's dangerous to separate from the idea of a God who is a person, from the Bible, from the need to seek God's will, to pursue holiness, etc.

I remember having the impression that confession was supposed to work from the outside in, but the inside needs to be worked on first. Out of the heart the mouth speaks. Even if you are saying all the right words...There's more to communication than words alone. Your confession is the result of your inside beliefs, so the answer, imo, is to become more fully grounded in the Word.

Well, when God owns every cattle, bird, and creature, and we don't...It's hard to comprehend! We worry about what we have and what we need/want, but God sees this world so differently than we do. He has a vision that we don't have, so it's important to realize maybe we need to leave some room for different opportunities.

Every creature in the forest,
even the cattle on a thousand hills, is mine.
I know every bird in the mountains.
Everything that moves in the fields is mine.
Psalm 50:9-11 GW

Then God said, "Let us make humankind in our image, after our likeness,
so they may rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air,
over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move on the earth."
Gen 1:26 (NET)

What "room for different opportunities" do you propose?

It goes to Romans in that our faith is not of our flesh or mind.
God is a Spirit and those who worship him must worship him in Spirit and in truth.

Our confession of faith is not carnal if we abide in the Spirit, we do what is right in the sight of the Lord, not believing for things to consume up on our lust.

Romans: 8. 12. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. 14. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: 17. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

True faith comes from the Spirit of a man even though our minds say this is impossible the Spirit is willing.

I looked at that book once, threw it in garbage.
It is a form of witchcraft hidden in the talk show stars.
When I think of it this passage speaks volumes :

2 Timothy: 3. 5. Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7. Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8. Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. 9. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.

Glad to hear you worked through the anti-WoF rhetoric, Messa. There are a few of us trying to educate believers about the misinformation/disinformation coming from the cessationists, Calvinists, apologists ... etc. I'd like to invite you to check out some of my videos along these lines at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7d_jPXSFkeYUV2BFnkMsMA/videos and my blog http://jewandgreek.com/word-of-faith/. God bless you as you continue to walk in the light of His Word.

I meant that we get locked into option A or option B (should I live here? or there? etc) when there may be something entirely different than may be much better. I think Andrew talked about that with the guy who asked God if Bible college A or Bible college B were better when really neither one was the best.

I'm not good at explaining why I dislike The Secret so, but that verse does touch on it.

Thank you. I will.

Something becomes evil or defiled only if one believes so (romans14:14). Like for example alcohol.

Meaningful Faith Confession could follow knowledge of the love of Jesus. Apart from such a knowledge, confession is just like mantras-recitation & hollow.
