  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My husband has a lrage stack of Donald Duck comics that his dad had when he was young. A collector once offered him $500 for the stack, and he refused to sell. The guy eventually got up to $1500, when my husband told him to just get out of his face--he won't sell them!

I used to collect a few. I'm sorta young, so the oldest ones I have are early 90s, so its more like the Bronze or Copper Age. I was huge into Silver Surfer and any other stories related to cosmic super heroes. I also had the death of superman comics, which aren't worth much anymore since he came back. Also, I have the first issue of Spawn.

I started collecting right around the time McFarlane left Marvel. Mainly I was into Spider Man, Wolverine, Punisher, Ghost Rider and a few others. WHen Image started, I was pretty much bought at least the first few issues of a new character.

I came to the realization that my collection most likely will not be worth much. Comics increase in value when they're rare. The market is so saturated now that I buy them for story and artwork (occasionally), not for collecting.

My prize possesion in the collection is Amazing Spider Man #318. Cosmic Spidey vs The Hulk, done by Todd McFarlane.

comics LOL, great thread, i wish i saw it sooner ;)
yeah, i collect comics, i probably have too many, but i keep getting more. my father was a huge sword and sorcery collector years ago, so he got me into the collection. (He sold it all when i was real young, all the original Conans etc.)
i had the privilage of meeting Sergio Aragones and gettin his autograph when i was young, and i started collectin with a fury then... and aside from the odd downtime, i still buy comics. i collect them for their artist/writer and their plot/story some are worth money, some are not even worth the paper they are printed on (which isnt hard since all this fancy paper is used :) )
i figure that i'll be in a similar situation you were Erwin, some day, i'll have this investment that i can pass off, maybe for my kids education ;) i dunno :)
but until then, they are great to read.

Favorite of all is The Green Lantern
