  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I never had many comic books. My favorite character was Batman though. About 1994 though I discovered The Shadow. I've been slowly collecting whatever pulps, serials, or radio programs I can. A friend of mine even cast a replica of the ring from the the 1994 movie for me from stills I captured from my DVD. At one time you could buy a replica but it had a glass stone. Mine has a garnet that I bought at a jewelry trade show.

What comic books do we remember collecting and reading when we were kids?

I was more into comic strips and comic strip books... like Garfield, Peanuts, The Far Side, Calvin and Hobbes, Bloom County etc.

If there had been a comic shop nearby, and my parents had approved of them, I probably would've gotten into comic books at the time. In a way, it's kind of ironic that I draw them now as a hobby.

You mentioned Peanuts strip books. Well, I have some of those, as well -- the books I have contain strips from the '50s, '60s, and '70s. I even have a book with some of the earliest strips ('50-'52), Lucy and Linus weren't even there, yet!

And Snoopy even looked a little different back then too. What's great about those old strips is that the humor is still funny, and the style still seems fresh. They're practically timeless!
