  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I do. I have bought comic books since about 1977. Or I should say back then my parents bought me comic books after I pleaded and begged for it.

I bought far more in the past than I do now. I like Spider-man and Dark Horse's Conan and Dynamite's Red Sonja. I loved Crossgen's comics when they were published. I collected just about all their titles. But like most non-superhero publishers, they folded.

Now in the past including the above, I collected: the Batman books, Superman books, Captain America, Hulk, Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Flash, Disney, Fantastic Four, and quite a few lesser knowns that I don't remember. My software says I have 5103 comics but it doesn't include the comics bought after 2004 because I got lazy but I also didn't buy much either because of lack of funds.

I've been reading comics since I was 13. These days I'll about Green Lantern, The Flash, Fables and Ex Machina. I was reading New Avengers until recently, when I decided it was time to cut Bendis loose. Right now I'm rereading Joe Kelly's on Deadpool. I love Grant Morrison's run on the X-Men, it was the only time I ever read the book on a monthly basis.

My comics were mostly of the "sappy" variety -- that includes Archie comics, one of my personal favorites. If it was "sunshine and lollipops" material, I probably had it.

I did have one Wonder Woman comic book when I was a kid. I don't remember whether I decided to get it myself (and if I did, what made me do it) or whether someone bought it for me. I only know that those kind of comics were not really my style.

Yes, I know that's weird in the comic book universe, but that was just me.

I've been collecting comics on and off for the pas 20 years. I don't even have a count of how many I have, other than they fill half of one of my closets. I am pretty much a Marvel-only collector. I have cut back tremendously over the years, and now only subbed to two books. Deadpool and the Drizzt series by DDP. I absolutely love Deadpool (see my avatar), but follow anything X-men and Spiderman.

Also,
I have like all the sonic the hedgehog conics they ROCK????
This, but spelled better. :p

As far as graphic novels go, my short list: Sandman (by Neil Gaiman), Watchmen (by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons), Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (by Frank Miller and Klaus Janson)

Does anyone here collect and read comic books?

I ahve been collecting for about 8 months now and want to know what other comic collecters and read feel about the characters and stories.

WHat comics have you subscribed to, which are your favorites?

WHat Graphic novels did you think were better than most books?
WHo is your favorite character?

I must say that i am a DC guy and still appreciate how great Marvel truely is.

But hey who cn beat the Teen Titans? or Batman: The Dark Night Returns?

DOes anyone have aclue what i am asking.

I have collected off and on. Now, not anywhere near what I did when I was a kid thirty years ago. With that being said, most of what I collect now is done for social research into the philosophical and bio-graphical values of those persons who first imagined some of our favorite characters.

Most of what is in my collection is from the golden, silver and bronze age. I have a difficult time getting into today's comics.

Does anyone here collect and read comic books?

I ahve been collecting for about 8 months now and want to know what other comic collecters and read feel about the characters and stories.

I started reading them from about the time I learned how to read up to today. I have not consistently read them, I've gone for years at a time without reading any. I started collecting as a teenager, back in the late 80's to early 90's and I've collected them on and off since then. I have not consistently collected them though, as I've gone for years at a time without buying a single issue.

WHat comics have you subscribed to, which are your favorites?

When I was a kid, I played with Mego Superhero dolls. I would literally throw my Superman doll. lol I've always been mainly interested in Superhero comics. My tastes have broadened somewhat over the years, my favorite characters are: Spider-man, Hulk, Wolverine, Superman and Batman. Back when I did subscriptions, I subsribed to Amazing Spider-Man, Incredible Hulk, Wolverine. DC comic characters grew on me more as I got older.

WHat Graphic novels did you think were better than most books?

I've never really been a huge fan of graphic novels, though I like the format. Marvels, Kingdom Come, Justice, and Crisis on Infinite Earths are among my favorites in the format.

WHo is your favorite character?

I cannot say really, I appreciate different characters for different reasons. Sometimes I enjoy one more than another, but it really depends on the creative team behind them. I think Alex Ross could make about any character my favorite. lol

I must say that i am a DC guy and still appreciate how great Marvel truely is.

Then you probably won't mind me saying Alex Ross is easily one of the best illustrators in the comics biz ever. He's like the Norman Rockwell of comics.

But hey who cn beat the Teen Titans?

The JLA ^_^

or Batman: The Dark Night Returns?

Superman vs Hulk with art by Steve Rude....dream match by a dream artist. I've always enjoyed the one-shot Spider-Man vs Wolverine from the 80's.

we have a bunch in our attic

That ought to peak any collectors curiosity. I collect bronze and silver age predominantly. A lot of non-hero stuff, Tarzan, Horror, Fantasy, but the heroes are also there. The further I get into the spirit, the less interested I am though.

I've been reading comics off and on since 1992. My problem now is their way too expensive! It's like $3.99/comic. The comic book store gives 20% off but still, its expensive. I did try out marvel's digital comics for a year. It's pretty sweet but nothing replaces having a comic book in your hand. I wish DC comics would move into the 21st century and offer their catalog online. I would love to read old action comics and superman issues.

One of the major complaints I had was writers and artists moved around to much. Once I'd get into a comic a ne "creative" team would take over and the quality of the comic diminished fast. Some of my favorite comic books and characters include: Hulk, Avengers, JLA, Superman, Action comics, Hawkeye, Fantastic Four, Captain Marvel, Hourman, Flash, Uncanny X-Men, and Justice Society of America.
