That is not true, there are more than two dozen known families, genra and species of Coelacanth in the fossil record. Once thought to be an extinct fish of 65 Ma, that gap has been filled quite a while now with new fossils and species discovered. There is a complete line of from the Devonian to present showing remarkable examples of evolution.
