Astroboy is worth is, IMO. It takes probably 2-4 hours to get through, and it one of the best platformers on any system. It's up there with the 2D Mario and Sonic games, IMO.

Lots of grinding in Ecclesia, unfortunately. Some of those bosses took me a lot of re-tries before getting by them. The crab, shadow boss and Dracula gave me the most trouble.

Oh! Mercenaries! I loved that game. Living in Korea at the time I played it helped a lot, as it's set in North Korea. Mercenaries 2 doesn't appeal to me at all, for some reason.

I'm finding the balance between wife and games to be a tough one... She seems to put up with it, at least. If I put Puyo-Puyo (I think it's called Puyo-Pop in English, but I'm not sure), Puzzle Bobble (Bust-a-Move), Bomberman, Tetris or most other puzzle games on, she'll get into it sometimes.

I just picked up a 3DO for about $15 yesterday!!!

I'll have to look into it then. It sounds good.

What's up with Japanese games and level-grinding anyway?

I'm looking forward to putting it in the system. I played a demo for it a few years back. I almost thought it would be like one of the recent GTA's, but it doesn't have the same feel. I was really turned off by San Andreas. But I think Mercs is a lot more fun.
Sounds like you have a good wife if she can at least try to interact with your fave hobby. I'm currently single, myself.

Awesomeness. What games do you have for it so far?

No idea... They just like it I guess.

I loved San Andreas. I was actually slightly disappointed by GTAIV. I really enjoyed driving around the countryside.

Well, maybe being Japanese helps. Even those who don't really play games still know Mario, Tetris, etc.

Awesomeness. What games do you have for it so far?
Bust-a-Move, Shockwave, Captain Quazar, Road Rash, Samurai Spirits (Samurai Showdown), Gex, The Need for Speed.

Yay, I got me a PC Engine Duo (Turboduo, or Turbografx-16 w/CD-ROM) today for about $60, along with Dragon Spirits and Pomping World CD (Buster Bros.).

Usually the Duo here runs between $150-$200 used, so I'm pretty happy!
I remember when Turbografx-16 was on display in department stores. But it was one of the "novelty" systems that only a few people had. We certainly didn't have one, nor did we even think to ask for one. I guess we were happy with our Atari 2600 and NES.

I remember playing one in about 1990 or 1991. One of my friend's friend/cousin/etc. had one, which I played the one time I remember visiting him. I recall Bonk's Adventure and Keith Courage. Then later, I remember playing on a display model in a Toys 'R' US. The display was showcasing the TG-16, Genesis and SNES. I don't remember which games were being displayed on the Genesis and SNES (probably Altered Beast and Mario World), but for some strange reason I do remember they had Keith Courage running on the TG-16. Other than that, they only other times I'd had contact with it was reading about it in magazines and, more recently, playing a few games on it in a retro games store in Tokyo.*

Not really a popular system in the English world, but, for some reason, I've always liked it. I've never actually wanted one until a few months ago, though.

*I do not count emulators.

This is a hobby i want to get into, but I haven't done much legwork in getting into it.

When I was living in Indianapolis, my roommate and I started amassing systems, but I only have a few now.

Systems my roommate and I had:
Nintendo
Super Nintendo
Nintendo 64
Gamecube
Wii (he got this after I left)
Playstation
PS2
PS3 (see the wii)
3DO
Genesis
Saturn
Dreamcast
Atari 2600

Needless to say, kind of miss that setup.

Nowadays, I have:
PS2
Xbox 360
Xbox
Dreamcast

Roommate's trying to get rid of his Saturn, so I might get it off him.

That's really all you need, unless you have an unnatural penchant for 80s gaming.
i'm into all kinds of games, so once i get in a better position financially, i'll probably expand that list.

Well, if you're strapped for cash at the moment, there are always dozens of awesome Xbox action games and PS2 RPGs at used game places ranging from $5-$20 (if you didn't already know, which you probably do).

If you don't mind me asking, what are some of your favorite Xbox and PS2 games?

I actually just got my old Xbox, it was given to me by my little cousin, as he already had one, and was given one by someone at his church. So I honestly only have one game for it right now: Street Fighter Anniversary Collection. I have played Shenmue 2 at a friend's house back in the day, and liked it. I also was fond of Halo 2. I just haven't grabbed any other games for the Xbox, since I've been on a fighting game kick. If I can find it, I'll probably buy Capcom vs. SNK 2 at some point.

PS2: The Kingdom Hearts series, Tekken Tag, Guitar Hero. The Tony Hawk Series got a lot of play back in the day too. I also thoroughly enjoyed Zone of the Enders.

Street Fighter Anniversary Collection is amazing. Probably the best SF compilation there is.

I just picked up Street Fighter 2' for the PC Engine (Turbografx-16) last week. It's amazing, as it absolutely holds up with the SNES version graphically. The sound isn't as good, IMO, but it looks just about as good. Overall, it's probably between the SNES and Genesis version.

Shenmue is great, too. Where is Shenmue III???????????????

I've got Capcom vs. SNK 2 on both PS2 and Dreamcast. It's probably my favourite fighting game, along with Street Fighter Alpha 2 (which I like better than Alpha 3 for some reason, probably the music).

Zone of the Enders... isn't that the free game that came with the expensive Metal Gear Solid 2 demo?

I also have Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, but like all fighting games, I suck at it. I've been wanting to pick up Capcom vs. SNK 2, but I haven't gotten around to it. Besides, I have Streetfighter Anniversary Collection, Soul Calibur 2, and Dead or Alive Ultimate 2 to suck up my time as it is, although, I am thinking about picking up DOA 3 so I can get all the unlockables in DOA 2 Ultimate.

Nothing unnatural about 80s gaming!!! It's perfectly natural as far as I'm concerned. Early to mid 90s too.
Bwahaaa. Not if you're obsessed with games like Master Chu and the Drunkard Hu. You have to watch The Angry Nintendo Nerd's review of it on YouTube to get what I'm saying. (I can't post a link here due to language. )

I love it, but it's collecting dust since Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix came out.

I never actually played Capcom vs. SNK 2, but I've heard good things. I went through a spurt where I rarely played video games, let alone fighting games, so I missed out on it.

Touche. I actually don't even think I have the MGS2 demo disc now. I just have the actual game. Not a bad game on its own though.

To be honest, I bought SSF2THDR, but I rarely play it. I don't know... I think I just prefer the look of the original. I usually play Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo on my Saturn with the arcade joysticks. I know the PS3/360 HD Remix version looks a lot nicer, but it just doesn't feel the same for some reason.

Probably because it wasn't supposed to though. Producer changed the inputs on several moves (Cammy's backfist, hooligan rolls, for instance, biggest difference is Zangief no longer needs a 360 motion for SPD), and changed some of the properties of certain moves (chun-li's spinning bird kick arches instead of going straight across, honda can headbutt through fireballs again, etc.). This game changed not just graphically, but gameplay-wise. In a way, kind of dumbed it down, but not so much that it's not strategically deep.

Graphically, it looks good to me, but it definitely doesn't feel like Capcom. But I love both.

I enjoyed the original Super Turbo, but the remixed game is just pure win in my book. I have a blast for it. Now if we can just get the patch that keeps all the connection dropping and health bar bugs, as well as the annoying "Vega start button" glitch fixed. Actually am glad I got a 360 instead of my usual Sony loyalty, as I hear PS3 owners have it worse with the bugs in this game.

Just waiting for Street Fighter IV to come out on console now. No arcades with in a 500 mile radius even have it, so I haven't gotten to play it at all, but have heard nothing but good things.
