  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

They are alright, but I'm really tired of all of the Radiohead comparisons that bands like Coldplay and Muse get. Just because there is piano and falsetto vocals does not mean that they are even remotely comparable to one of the most innovative bands of all-time.

There's not a single thing about them that I like - all I see is unbelievable arrogance (touting themselves as the next U2? please.). The day Chris Martin takes Bono's place will be the day I sing lead for the Rolling Stones.

The 'bright-eyed skull face' comment was right on. That dude makes me want to puke.

Yes, but normally it seems that people discredit both Muse and Coldplay for their sound. Personally, I don't think either are trying to sound too much like Radiohead. Plus, I'd rather hear a band with a Radiohead influence than a band with a strong Green Day influence.

Coldplay had some of the best singles in popular music over the past several years. I enjoyed seeing "Yellow", "Clocks", and "The Scientist" getting a lot of airplay. Plus, the band seems to compose good, complete albums.

I can agree with that.

I wasn't saying that to try and discredit the band so much as I wanted to put an end to some of the comparisons they get. I think they have a distinguished sound that is different than Radiohead and I think it is unfair to both bands to compare their sounds. I have Parachutes and Rush of Blood to the Head and I listen to both on occasion. They are decent releases. I have yet to hear X&Y though.

I thought that X&Y was pretty good, but not quite up to snuff compared to their two previous releases.

I submit that you're a little out-of-line by saying that they're "touting themselves as the next U2".

Granted, Martin did say that he'd love to see Coldplay "take over from U2", but I don't see that as a demonstration of "unbelievable arrogance". I mean, what band out there doesn't feel that way?

Besides, the context in which the statement was made leads me to believe he was speaking about social activism, not musical popularity...

They get old really quick. The music just seems too airy and disembodied to me. Not to mention I don't really care for his vocals. "Yellow" was good when it came out but it bores me to tears now; "Speed of Sound" is starting to grow on me, but I don't hear it too often either since I've pretty much stopped listening to the radio. Aside from those two songs (really one song if you think about it), I really don't see the attraction.

Yeah, but x&y wasn't bad...
to me, COLDPLAY ROOOOOOCCCCCCKKKKSSS!!!!

ehehehe

no really...

some people say they copy radiohead, some people say they're a wanna be U2 band... erm... The genre of music they play falls in between U2 and radiohead. They are influenced by other artists, but hey, who isn't?
A rush of Blood to the Head is their best album...

COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLDPLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY ROOOOOOOOOOCKS!!!!

ahem... I guess it's just me. oh well.
