• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I had to go out of the office unexpectedly today. I was driving for about 6 hours, and I had some time think. I've had trouble with anxiety and depression, basically all of my life. Anyway, I don't like cold and darkness, and being out away from home late at night, especially if it is cold and dark? These seem to aggravate the A & D, Anyone else like this?

my favourite time is dark cold winters. But I understand how that can affect you. My Grandpa has serious seasonal affective disorder (sad) and he has a special light therapy that is supposed to help. Apparently many people have this light therapy where they sit under this light for 30 minutes a day. It sounds strange but apparently many people do this. It has the same effect as the sun.

This is just an idea-it worked for me. Once I learned the secrets of how to stay warm outside during the winter, I picked up winter hiking because I love that. I started using the fireplace daily, and closing my evenings with a good fire, scripture, lots of lights on, and a cup of decaf or hot chocolate. The combination of elements changed my whole perspective about winter. It goves kind of a sense of control over it, and it got less creepy.

I also think it's the reduced sunlight. I've learned that I "improve" a bit when I've been out in the sun a while, whether it's just sitting on the porch reading or running errands. But I kinda do like Whitehorse. When it's dark and cold, I like a cup of tea and curl up on the couch with a book.
