  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I believe it exists as those small events that have no significance and fall under the free will arena, but I don't believe that it is without it's boundaries and I don't believe IN the whole chance and luck mindset.

I saw this cute little saying somewhere else on here (hopefully I will get it right):

A coincidence is when God chooses to remain anonymous.

I see it more as a label of an occurance. There are not coincidences, in the sense that those actions are seperate from others, but in the sense that they are more so..different than others. I can't explain it well enough, I know, but...whatever.

Coincidence, I think, refers to something were we feel that there should be a causal relationship between two events, but we cannot see the mechanism by which such a cause would occur. For example the classic thinking of a friend and then having that friend call. The two events are similar and intuitively it strikes us that the first could have caused the second, but when we examine the situation rationally no cause presents itself. So we label the whole thing as a coincidence and shove it in the back of our mind.

So is that such a bad thing? Probably not. If I want to talk to my friend and I think that the above incident was not coincidence, I may think of them and hope they call. But it would be much quicker for me to make the call. So even though in most coincidences we can't definitively say that there was no causal relationship, it is usually better not to assume that there is, at least in terms of practical living.

The thing is if coincidences are all the result of God, God had to make occur everything that led up to that happening. If this is os no one is in contorl of their own destiny and we have no choice or free will. That would make us nothing but God's toys who can't choose anything for ourselves. I think God can intervene in some ways, especially if it involves a natural occurance, but making PEOPLE do things takes away the ocncept of free will and without free will we aren't human.

Yes and no.

Everything that happens happens as the result of the physical laws that govern our universe- so you only really have to accept "coincidences" if you think that those laws were random in their creation.
