I am an American fighting man.
I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life.
I am prepared to give my life in their defense.​

I will never surrender of my own free will.
If in command I will never surrender my men while they still have the means to resist.​

[SIZE=+0]III[/SIZE]​

If I am captured I will continue to resist by all means available.
I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape.
I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.​

[SIZE=+0]IV[/SIZE]​

If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners.
I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades.
If I am senior, I will take command. If not I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me and will back them up in every way.​

When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war,
I am required to give name, rank, service number, and date of birth.
I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability.
I will make no written statements disloyal to my country and its allies or harmful to their cause.​

I will never forget that I am an American fighting man, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free.
I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.​

There isnt any real point to this thread except that I came across this the other day and it brought back memories to me when I served.

I read every word here and reflected on and what it meant to me.

In this day and age with a controversial war, personal confusion on whats right, people wondering about the ethics of our service, new folks here in CF going to enlist, I felt that maybe this would be for good reading on who and what we are.

Especially Article Vl. Note the part of who we trust.

Excellent post, JAO. Reading through them reminds me of my father's era, WW2. The code has remained the same probably on every count. I think the wording for British and Commonwealth troops was, "It is the duty of every man, if captured, if at all possible, to escape..." (or words to that effect)

"Duty" is a word we hear very little of now days.

Excellent thread.

I was thinking about the NCO Creed (I'm an old Army guy) yesterday and was wondering about taking it and seeing what Christian ideals are in it.
