A guy I have worked with almost 4 years has quit drinking as of 2 days ago. I ask for strength for him and wisdom to avoid his drinking buddies. He seems dead set on keeping with his drinking buddies. I would ask for a strong change in his life and his friends.

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I wish the best for your friend/coworker! Quitting drinking is very hard for some. Usually the decision to quit is based on some bad experience or experiences with alcohol and hopefully he will keep his resolve, but I doubt he is ready or willing to give up his friends, because probably they are the biggest part of his social circle. If his resolve to quit is strong though, he will eventually find new friends, just because the common bond between them will diminish. If his resolve his weak, however, he will probably return to drinking. If he really wants to quit, hopefully, he will join AA or some other support group! In any event, I will keep him in my prayers.

Father, i pray that you would change silentpoet's friends life. Father, that he would change the way that he is living so that it would be in accordance with your will. Lord, i pray that he would be able to restrain himself from excessive drinking. Lord, i pray that at all times he would have the strength to over come this temptation that he is facing with the alchol. Father, i also pray for his drinking buddies. Lord, i pray that they would come to know you as a personal friend and saviour. Father, that they to would giev up drinking excessively. Lord, that they would fill that gap in their lives with your love, and your Holy Spirit. I pray this in Jesus' name, amen
