Co-Sleeping

I just can't figure out, if you don't leave the child alone during the day, and they sleep with you at night, when do you get your alone time (read 'sex').

Oh! sex... in bed...at night! We'll have to try that sometime!!

That's what I used to say when our kids were little and people would ask me.

Babies can be relocated fairly easily...there are other rooms in the house... there are other times of the day when one can have sex...and one can have sex with baby in bed. The child has no clue what is going on and usually does not wake up at all, though I confess, I nursed a baby during sex one time... I felt very earth-mother about it...

Don't remember feeding during sex, but have laid a hand/shushed once or twice.

WOW - I can't even have sex with DOGS in the room, much less children... no way.

And just the 'logistics' of nursing while having sex boggles my mind.


I guess since hubby and I have a hard enough time having sex in the normal places (our bed) that trying to figure out other places around the house would be that much more difficult. We tried the couch once, but we are both too big for it to be enjoyable for either one of us (we just moved it up to the bedroom).

I fully understand that it may not be for everyone... and I think it was only done once or twice in our marriage.

Often different locations call for different positions... May I suggest a good sex manual?

Well for the first few weeks you aren't supposed to be having sex anyway, after that, I don't know too many that have sex more then a couple of times a week, mostly for lack of energy. By the time baby is old enough to not drain all your energy during the day, there are ways to work around things, sometimes we would move our daughter onto a blanket on the floor, or use another room, people think it is so strange to have sex with a sleeping child in the room but what do you think they did 200 years ago when they had a two room house and 10 kids?

We cosleep. Our daughter coslept until she was 25 months then went to her own bed with no problems. Our son is 8 months and still cosleeps. Cosleeping makes night nursing so much easier. I can't imagine having to deal with all the sleep deprivation that goes with having to get up to feed baby. As far as sex goes I think we had more sex because we coslept. We were much more well rested so sleep wasn't the only thing on our mind. It also never bothered us to be together while there was a sleeping baby in the bed and have even done it while nursing like some others mentioned here.

I never coslept with any of my boys. I was too afraid I would roll over and crush them. I placed the bassinette next to my side of the bed and breastfed in bed, but that was all...after the feeding and burping (LOL) I placed him right back in the bassinette. My girlfriend coslept with her daughter. Her daughter is now almost 5 years old, and STILL sleeps with her. I couldn't do that!

Same here. We *tried* with a bassinet but ODS was sooo loud at night that he was banned from our room. I didn't mind getting up to feed him. We had a cute nursery for him and made use of it

that's good!! I loved preparing the nursery for all three of my boys! Wasn't it fun? all that cute baby stuff!!

We haven't coslept, but if it works for a family I wouldn't say its wrong! I've just found its easier to put them in a crib nearby where we can both have our space and so its easier for me to stay up later than baby.
