So, then anything not included in Holy Scripture is considered spurious?
Hmmm is it spurious? I don't know. It may be authentic, maybe not.
What this means is that the only people who had the Holy Spirit and were capable of discerning God's will lived before the 1st century?
No, but it would would seem it was discerned that "this" wasn't part of scripture, right? Interesting? Sure! Inspired? I (and evidently others) don't think so. :)

Funny thing is Tulc (I know you enjoy humor):), is that your protestant bible doesn't contain all of the books that were deemed worthy of canonization. So, what of them? You seem to be missing some inspiration. :p

You forget Paul. :) Did he hold virginity at a level that was not intentioned by God?

Love,
Christina
Actually he had more to say about staying as you are, single or married. He did mention that his statement about virgins was not a leading from God.

Sunlover,

There would have been no need of a Godly seed if Adam and Eve would not have fallen.:) Life would have remained pure.

Love,
Christina
Sex is pure.. It is ordained of God.. Adam and Eve would have had children even if they had not sinned. If God would have thought virginity was more pure He would not have made them male and female.. But as you see the animals were to muliply and there was none suitable for the man.. So God created Eve and commanded them to be fruitful and mutiply..

I am starting a thread on the topic of virginity and what the Holy Scriptures have to say about it. Please join in. :)

...you don't think the visiting angels (not to mention the huge choir of angels singing His praises), or the visiting sheperds and wise men weren't kind of a tip-off?
tulc(heck I like to think even I would have noticed THAT!) :sorry:

What are you trying to say exactly??

That God is powerless to conceal things from satan??

Hello!
Why do you think the OT prophecies were so obscure..?

Uhmm actually that is the exact opposite of what I was saying. :)

Actually Paul said that what he had was not of himself but a gift from God. A gift of singleness. If a person does not have this gift it is better for him to marry than to burn with passion. For this is why God made them male and female.

Genesis 2 24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
25 The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

Protoevangelium of James

We can all play guessing games and have our fun speculating but I will go with what the apolstle James was believed to have written
We have what James wrote. In the bible. For all to see. God is the one who preserves His word and lets it be known. If God would have breathed what was written in the other books and writings they would be there for all of mankind to see. For God is faithful. But since they are not in there I can trust that they were not there for Gods purpose. Any writings that contradict the rest of scripture will not be for all to see for God will not be mocked. He has sent His word. Extra books and writings that are not inspired by God are just that.. Mens teachings and not of God.

Him making provision is not the same as Adam knowing Eve and her conceiving. There was no marital relation prior to the fall.

Love,
Christina
Yes there was. For God created them male and female as Husband and wife. From the beginning. To multiply and fill the earth. We are directed back to Genesis and the creation of man and woman many times in the NT. This is Gods set up. Making sex and marriage pure in the eyes of the Lord. It is in mans thinking that the purity of a union between married couples is tainted. That came after the fall. For that is when the enemy made it out to be what God never intended it to be. Before the fall of man it was good. God said it was.. Then He rested.

Surely we shouldn't be trying to explain the bible using wisdom of words. The words simply mean what they say, plain and simple. We shouldn't be trying to explain what simply isn't there.

Paul said,

to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.

Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

But we preach Christ crucified,

Sort of like when Paul says, it is better for a man not to touch a woman, and I would that all men were even as I myself, doesn't really mean what it looks like he is saying. Afterall, we were all created with certain body parts, and heck, I'm gonna use them. That's my purpose, dontchaknow, and Paul wasn't Christ, so we really don't have to follow him . . . /sarcasm

This isn't directed at you Tyndale. :)

In impatience,
Christina

there IS a calling in life long virginity. for some.

Which is why the EO have to maintain, despite scripture, that Joseph and Mary didn't marry. Otherwise, it doesn't make much sense for her to BE a perpetual virgin.
