• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am getting sick and tired of CNN going on and on about the American flag being put onto the face of Saddam's statue. It was there for perhaps 10 seconds and replaced with an Iraqi flag. (President Bush already instructed the military not to post the flag or even fly it from all of their tanks etc.) [an act of humility never seen by an army of victory]

I think that CNN is responsible for promoting the idea of conquest being represented here and are inflaming the Arab world with this idea. Instead of reveling in the freedom of the Iraqi people, the CNN commentators were subdued and criticial. Is it so hard to imagine that the Iraqi people are grateful to the Americans? The Iraqi's were flying American flags from their cars and trucks. Already CNN is saying that Iraq will soon grow tired of the American presence. Give me a break! The war is not even over yet.

I watched a CNN report yesterday (what I could stomach) and I heard the word "occupation" at least 5 times, plus the flag on the statue scene (which lingered on and on). A reporter kept asking servicemen if they considered themselves liberators or occupiers. It's sickening the way CNN is doing.

I'm not sure I would hold CNN responsible for that incident...

But I do hold them responsible for overexagerating and mere stupidity sometimes! I can't stand CNN... I would MUCH rather watch MSNBC or listen to BBC on the online radio... merely because CNN is so conceited...

However; I do think the Iraqi's will quickly grow tired of American presence...especially if it turns into a long occupation; because they want their country back... and they are still traumatized by 35 years of pure hell....

Today at 12:28 PM OPEC said this in Post #5

guys - if you truly believe that it is CNN who is causing hatred of the US in the arab world, then look at the mirror if you want to lay blame.

cnn remains on the air as long as the public continues tuning in.

btw - cnn isn't the reason why they hate us ;)

I don't recall anyone saying CNN is causing hatred of the US. But it's not helping matters by putting its own spin on the war, saying it is one of conquest instead of liberation.

Since I got a satellite dish, I no longer tune in to CNN. In fact, I don't watch TBS, TNT, or anything else associated with Ted Turner or Time Warner.

I don't even use AOL (wife and kids do, though, they pitch a fit when I tell them I want to get rid of it.)

The BBC didn't show the coverage of the statue coming down at all. I was just watching ABC and they are already calling this an occupation, and the slant and bias is so obvious I switched back to FOX News.
