WASHINGTON - Most U.S. troops can be withdrawn safely from Iraq in roughly one year and the Bush administration should begin planning the pullout immediately, according to a study released Wednesday. if(window.yzq_d==null)window.yzq_d=new Object();window.yzq_d['J3tYOdGDJH0-']='&U=13b66vh0r%2fN%3dJ3tYOdGDJH0-%2fC%3d346472.11157279.11722807.1442997%2fD%3dLREC%2fB%3d2700580';

With the exception mostly of two brigades of about 8,000 troops who would remain in the touchy Kurdish region in the north for a year to guard against conflict with Turkey, the U.S. troops would be moved to Kuwait initially, says the study by the Center for American Progress, a self-described "progressive think tank" headed by John D. Podesta, a former chief of staff to former President Clinton.

Never fear, he added quickly, soothingly, disingenuously: "In cooperation with neighboring countries, such as Saudi Arabia, we would be prepared to fill this power vacuum for the sake of aiding the Iraqi government and people."

"There is in no way the possibility of such an attack by the United States. Even if they take such a decision they cannot implement it [as] they have to solve the question of Iraq and Afghanistan," he said. "Politicians do not deal with imaginary things. They deal with reality and this is propaganda. This (an attack) is not on the agenda of US officials and it cannot be." With Iraq firmly in its orbit, Iran will be able to powerfully resist diplomatic pressure and even the threat of military action as it will work to divide western nations so dependent on Middle Eastern oil.
Already the world's second-largest oil-holder, Tehran would dramatically enhance its influence should Iraq - which has the third largest reserves of conventional oil in the world - come under its sway. All told, the Middle East holds two-thirds of the planet's oil reserves. Whoever reigns supreme here will be an almost unassailable force. Ahmadinejad's latest threats come three months after Jerusalem-based International Christian Zionist Center director Jan Willem van der Hoeven flew to the United States to lobby against a US forces withdrawal from Iraq. If Washington pulls its troops out, Iran will rush in, Van der Hoeven warned Senators and Congressmen, both Republicans and Democrats, in their offices on Capitol Hill. The consequences would be catastrophic for United States Middle East policies aimed at strengthening the "moderate" Muslim bloc of Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait etc, and would put Europe at the mercy of an Iranian oil boycott.

Too bad bush didn't think of this potentail when he recklessly went to war with a sovereign nation, and had its leader killed. This is no joke. America's very power is presently threatened by this admin's reckless foreign policy. Staying in iraq just ensures that this country's military wll be too exhausted and financially drained to deal with a real threat(like iran or a multitude of other nations who hate america) when it arises.
Bush is the one, not some think tank headed by a former clinton employee, whose policies are ruining america. He in effect signed america's death warrant when he and his advisors decided the US was free and justified to attack any country they dubbed as evil.

Feel free to bless me!

May God bless you.

But the US miltary is not exhausted but just the opposite.
they are battle hardened now and far more skillful from real time battle than any army in the world.

Taking out Irans army would only be a matter of weeks like Iraqs army was.

As far as finances go US can always get plenty to go to war from Nations who need our protection.

Like the weak cowardly liberal countries.

Our advanced weaponry can take out any organized army. Numbers of men do not matter in real warfare.

Now Gorilla warfare that the Iraqis nd Iranian terrorists are using on each other takes Iron fisted police state rule.

It is time we take our teoops out of Iraq and use the success preemptive strike policy that won the Iraq war with Saddam Husseins regime and miltary and use it on Iran.

I ask because I doubt you would refer to these countries as weak+cowardly if you'd spent any time there. Choosing not to spend a fortune on military or to be quick to go to war doesn't necessarily make one weak or cowardly.

No choosing not to have a strong military makes one weak and that brings on cowardous.
