  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hopefully I'm not asking a dumb question here :sorry: but what is the difference between the "civil year" and the "ecclesiastical year"? Such as, in reading about the month of Tishri it is "the first month of the civil year and the seventh month of the ecclesiastical year". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tishrei

The Civil year has the cycle of when All Jews have specific days to be civil to each other denoted on it.;)

:D

First month of civil year, thus Yom Teruah renamed, Rosh Hashanah

The seventh month of the 'ecclesiastical', is the so called religious calendar, ( actually the one that HaShem started himself in Exo 12:2 ( this month ( Aviv or called today Nissan after Babylon) shall be unto you the beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year to you. Thus the calendar that contains the moedim ( the appointed times) begins with the first of Aviv, and 14 days later, Passover, and it continues till Tishri which has the last of the moedim within it. Thus it contains the "religious" holy days of the people within it, starting when HaShem said to start it.

Some say that the civil came first, was given or started in Gen 1:1 and HaShem changed it in Ex 12:1. The dating in genesis seem to correspond to this civil calendar, but you need to know about the change. For instance in Gen 8:4 it says that on the 17th day of the seventh month the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. Now if you are using the religious calendar it seems to be on the second day of what would be Sukkot, but using the civil calendar, you are landing in Nissan or Aviv and the 17th day could very well be First Fruits, so it depends on how you look at it. And later in 8: 13, it says on the first day of the first month which could be Aviv 1 or Tishri 1 that the water had been dried up and Noach removed the covering of the ark.

In plan english... that from the passover to the end of the feast of tabernacles is the Ecclesiastical because of their prophectic details in their rehearsals, or as Paul said, "shadow of things to come."

The civil year starts at the feast of trumpets and goes til the Passover.
