I agree with Carl Emerson on this.

Circumcision was the sign of belonging to God in the old covenant, baptism is the sign of belonging to God in the new covenant.
I agree as well. What's even more notable is that the sign of the new covenant was a specific type of baptism (John the baptizer even said that his type - baptism by water - was just the beginning of changes to come):

Matthew 3:11 ~ I baptize you with water for repentance, but after me will come One more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

Acts 1:5 ~
For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."

Have I mentioned that I'm glad I'm not a guy? I will take a period over losing one of my body parts thank you very much. At least my body is back to normal afterwards.
This is describing castration....not circumcision.

Circumcision of the flesh was a ritual of covenant to the Jews that circumcision of the heart has replaced as the equivalent of the new covenant with Christ.
Exactly.....and that's the context of this passage:

Romans 9:8 ~ So it is not the children of the flesh who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as offspring.

The further analogy of that is found in Galatians 4

I'm already pretty sure that it isn't commanded today,.. but what are your thoughts on this? Pros? Cons? I haven't made up my mind yet if I have any future sons. Now unlike my infant baptism thread,.. I'm actually looking for advice about this to try and make up my mind.
Circumcision is a sign and seal of the covenant in the Old Testament. It is abrogated and replaced by baptism in the New Testament. Believers are not required to circumcise their sons, as the counsel of Jerusalem in Acts made plain. Unless there is some medical reason for doing so, we really shouldn't mutilate our sons absent Biblical command.

Biblically ... taking the NT into consideration ... it is not a commandment nor a requirement ... however ... if we do in fact follow the steps of Jesus he was circumcised.

Also, one should talk with their doctor .... many doctors state there are very good health and hygiene reasons to do so.

Because of these 2 reasons ... we did choose to have our son circumcised when he was born.

I see no point to it at all. Circumcision isn't commanded for us anymore, and it's not a "health and hygiene" issue at all. You simply need to teach a boy how to wash properly if he has a foreskin. It's also thought to increase sexual pleasure to leave the foreskin intact, so... just leave it the way God made it!

Really? Interesting about the masturbating thing as I didn't know that. I wonder if that's why it was originally part of the law. You can bet that Jesus never did that though so then His circumcision would have been rather pointless.

Well it doesn't actually work. It was a modern myth. The only reason in the Bible given for circumcision was that it was a sign and seal of God's covenant. But, with the coming of Jesus there is a new covenant, and circumcision is of no significance, which is why St. Paul can say in 1 Corinthians 7:19, "Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing". It is utterly and entirely irrelevant in Christianity.

It was the sign of the covenant God made with Abraham. If you want to be part of that covenant, then I think it is ok.

This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your seed after you. Every male among you shall be circumcised.
Gen. 17:10

God made covenant also through Jesus. It has different signs.

Then he took a loaf of bread, gave thanks, broke it in pieces, and handed it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Keep on doing this in memory of me.” He did the same with the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, poured out for you.
Luke 22:19-20

I think the covenant that was made through Jesus is enough for me.

I don't know much about it, but I can't see any 'pros' at all. Unless, maybe, you are a man and have a calling to witness to the Jews; then it might be useful - which was why Paul circumcised Timothy.
'Cons'? Jesus didn't teach it, say anything about it nor command that the early church continue with it. Paul, once a super zealous Pharisee, said that if people allowed themselves to be circumcised then it meant that Christ's sacrifice was worthless. He also told those who taught it was necessary to go all the way and castrate themselves.

What I find so fascinating about when Paul says this, is that you can almost hear the exhaustion and exasperation in his tone--he's fed up, he's done, he's run out of patience with the false teachers who are actively harming Christ's flock. Paul is working tirelessly in his preaching of the Gospel, trying to direct the believers under his care in the churches to hold onto the pure Gospel which they received from the beginning--and here comes in all these "super apostles" as he sarcastically calls them, these false teachers and false prophets distorting that message and leading well-meaning Christians astray.

The stress and exhaustion over this is palpable. The apostle is done playing nice--let them go ahead and dismember themselves if they care so much about a small piece of flesh.

So I wrestled and dealt with this issue when my son was born. The doctor recommended the son should be the same as is his father. I had been circumcised as my father was Jewish at the time of my birth. As it turned out my son was circumcised on the eighth day due to an infection but I think God's hand was on it. He is an evangelizing Christian today.

What I want to know is how does removing a bit of skin off of your son's penis making a covenant with God in any way?

That was the sign of the covenant that God made with Abraham, Genesis 17. God said, "walk before me and be blameless and I will confirm my covenant with you ............ this is my covenant, you will be the father of many nations", Genesis 17:2-4. Then he said "every male among you must be circumcised", Genesis 17:10-11.
God gave circumcision.
