I suppose that when we get enough authoritarian athiests together on this issue to make it a matter of law then Judaism's days are numbered.

So you think ritual forced circumcision of Jewish* babies is ethical?

*babies have no concept of religion, god or indeed anything at this stage making them technically atheist. They are only Jewish in the sense that their parents are forcing their religion onto them.

I suppose your right, might as well talk to the puppet-master rather than the puppet.

Should I query him via phone? email? letter?

You are just too obtuse for your own good.

You might want to ask a Rabbi about Judaism, circumcision and what these mean to the Jewish people, and what any attempt to outlaw any of these would mean to them.

You atheists are so "Enlightened".

Hah!!!

I would ask them why god would order his people to cut off their children's foreskin when he is also telling them they are his "perfect" creation. Why give man foreskin if it only going to be hacked off at birth? That makes absolutely no logical sense does it?

I am not a Judaist so I can't answer that.

You can contact any number of Jewish organizations or sign on to Jewish forums and ask them...

...and please be sure to state your position. You'd be doing them a huge favor. They would be well-served to get a warning about you and others who share your views, and it would be best if it came right from the horse's mouth..

If Jewish parents want to circumcise their sons, so be it. I think it's misguided and unnecessary, but they obviously don't, so I'm OK with that. But plenty of non-Jews get circumcised, and they don't have the religious reasons to fall back on. I'm not for outlawing the practice, but I am all for reducing it when it's done for reasons of aesthetics or selfish pride.

Skaloop, don't you see the problem with the position that circumcision is unethical?

If people see circumcision as immoral or harmful and seek to outlaw it, or even to restrict it, how does that make them any better than the Christian Fundimentalists they love to hate???

Psst. it was rhetorical ;)

Its almost as if you want me to feel guilty about my position. I do not. Not in the slightest.

Forcing your religious beliefs your child by cutting off parts of his genitalia is wrong and if I could I would ban it.

There is a significant difference bewteen circumcision and forced circumcision at birth for religious reasons.

Because I am not seeing anyone trying to legislate that circumcision should be illegal.

And I wouldn't go so far as to say it's unethical. Unnecessary, yes. I am quite opposed to the practice, but I'm not trying to force my stance on anyone else.

So you are all for the legislation of morality, just so long as it is yours...

no religious practice should be forced upon an infant. Especially those that carry the risk of infection and death, however small. Even if just one baby died due to complications from forced circumcision that is, imo, a massive injustice.

Well, then I disagree with them. If it were to be banned, I wouldn't mind at all. But I won't call for it to be banned.

Your position isn't really much better then. You and Exail are foxes. Exail is raiding a henhouse. You're opposed to that, but you'll dine with him if he makes a chicken and egg sandwich and then serves it to you.

What will you have to wash that down with???

Well, Jewish friends, look out in another decade or so!!!

I think it's clear that you are an archenemy of G-d. What's He to do with you???

I wouldn't eat it in the first place. I'm vegetarian.

And note, I would love it if everyone were vegetarian, but I wouldn't want to make that a law.

Exail,

I am pleading you for your sake, now. Change your attitude towards G-d while He is extending His grace towards you. The Jewish people and His Covenant with them are important to Him. The Tanakh is central to the Jewish people as well.

Please reconsider your position. You are just going to get yourself hurt big time...
