  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi, nice to meet you all : )

I am going on my first campus tour next week...what should I expect? I am slightly nervous just *thinking* about getting ready for college, and I have not even started my senior year of HS yet!
But, here's my major question for all who are in college, or have at least decided where they want to go:
How did you know that college was "the one"?
What made you realize that this particular college is where you want to spend the next four years?
What do you wish you knew before you were in college, that would have helped you choose the college that you should go to?
And finally...
What do you think is the important factor that colleges look for when accepting students? Should I get lots of extra-curriculars? Should I focus on my GPA? Or, perhaps, master my application essay?
Thanks so much!

I don't know much about CBC but I am assuming you are near there? Are you set on a Bible College or is it only that you are intent on being able to wholeheartdely pursue your faith through college. If you're looking in the central ohio area I would look near Columbus as well at other colleges and the good college aged ministries for your faith trainging.

Trust me, you will just KNOW if you like the college or not. I would equal out the extra activities and school... don't focus just on school, don't just focus on friends and don't just focus on extra activities. Equal them out and you should have fun in college :)

Thanks for the input : ) I do hope I get that feeling when I find one that I like...I would hate to be so unsure about my choice, and then get there and find out it's def. not the college for me...

I am not only looking at Bible colleges, but my grandfather went there about 50 years ago to become a minister (they've changed quite a bit since...), so they were the first school I thought of when requesting information...they also happened to call back first. I have a few other colleges that I've requested information from, and only a few have called back so far. I have lived in big ole columbus all of my life, so I was actually hoping to stray a little further from home. but circleville is only like, 30 minutes away...lol. My sister just graduated from college, so she went through all of the "college search" stuff not too long ago, so she is helping me a bit. My mother wanted to take this summer and look at all the different colleges I am interested that are in ohio, so I was hoping that I could get really well prepared to know what I want to look for, stuff like that....hah, I am just so nervous about starting the whole college search in general...

This is a bit OT, but I was talking to a friend about going to visit CBC, and they were kinda like, "Oh, well we just knew you were going to go to a bible college." almost making it sound like just because I am a christian, that I think I can only go into the ministry field, which isn't the case at all, and I was surprised and hurt that they thought I was so closed minded (not that following a calling is a bad thing, it's great...I just don't believe I have a calling into the ministry like that right now, personally...again not to say that I am not in some sort of 'another level of ministry' than standing on a pulpit and preaching a sermon everyweek or something...maybe witnessing to a friend or something like that...but you know what I mean...lol ; ) ) My sister just graduated from the nursing program at the local community college, and nobody thinks any less of her, or that because she's not doing something in the ministry, she isn't following a calling or something. anyway...
do a lot of you here feel like people are surprised when you don't become a preacher, or head off to Asia for world missions, just because you're a christian? It's almost making me feel like people don't think you're ever going to touch peoples lives just because you want to work with animals or something that doesn't happen in a church. I mean, we need doctors, and computer people and teachers and cashiers at the stores and all that stuff...so why is it that people act like I'm the one being closed minded about colleges when I am only looking at ONE bible college as of yet?! Hah, I'm sure when i schedule an appt. with someone at the community college nearby, the same people will probably think that I am being a 'rebel' from my church...geesh.
lol, sorry for the rant, but all this college stuff is a bit stressing...hah.
EmSchmem, do you live around the area or something? I was surprised you knew a bit about the location and all...but I guess you could have looked it up on the internet as well : ) Just curious...
Thanks, all

Financial aid, what types of packages do they have, etc.
What is the placement rating of the major you are thinking about going into?
You will think of questions as you go on the tour... There are no specific questions everyone should ask, but those two I listed are good starters.

I live in Columbus, which Circleville is close to. I gre up here. I belong to a church called Xenos Christian Fellowship. We a re a non-denominational church with an extensive college age fellowship. I don't know what "kind" of Christian you are but Xenos may be worth checking out if you are planning on looking at Columbus State Community College (if that was the community college you were looking at. You can check out the website at www.xenos.org and I can answer some of your questions if you like as well.
