  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Ok , well i have a few questions about church.

1. Must i go to church?

2. How do i go about finding a church when i really don't know anyone who goes to church?

I'm just scared, i really don't want to just bowl up by myself to one of the churches in my area, i'm a bit too scared to do that. I go to a Seventh Day Adventist college, but i'm not a SDA, so does it matter if i go to that church or do i need to find another church?

I'm just really confused about how i'm meant to go about everything and any words of advice would be greatly appreciated. :)

Whew.
It'll take some prayer and shopping to find the right church.
You should feel welcomed and loved at a church.
I'm partial to Calvary Chapel. My brother in law pastors one in New Orleans.
*hug*
It's not fun to have to find a church home.

Must you go to church?
The bible says not to forsake the fellowship. You do need a family of believers.

To be a christian, make it to heaven no you don't have to go to church. But the Father just new fellowship, friends is what we always need plus teaching of Gods word. You see you have something that someone else does not have and when you go to church the Father will use you to give it away and the RIDE just keeps getting better and better. ;)

Thanks for that guys, it's helped a bit. I'm just going to have to keep praying til i find one that i'm comfortable in. My problem is that there are heaps around within the 20 min area of my place, it means i have more to choose from and well i'm not good with decisions. But i guess with that many around i shouldnot have a problem finding one that i like!!!

After reading your replies, and alot of thinking and praying, i've decided that i want to go to church, so now all i have to do is get my courage up for this sunday and rock up at one!!! :) Ugh, it's going to be very scary!!!

But thankyou all again for your advice!!!

Since you attend an SDA School and are not a member of that Church I am sure you are aware of certain problems there that do not agree with your spirit. But is important that you find a local Church that is Bible believing and teaching. Find you a basic Bible Church for beginners, like the Baptist Church, and not one hung upon rituals or repetitious rituals, or legalism.

I am fairly new to the boards, I actually registered in October but have not posted until now. I just wanted to add that I am a new Christian after 20 years of not really knowing what I believed. I am 30 years old and I just attended church today for the first time since I was 10 years old. My husband and I moved to a new town about 6 months ago and I decided that I wanted to definately start going to church again. It's taken me this long to make the leap but I am so glad I did. I found a Baptist Church here and have been emailing with one of the secretaries there for the past three weeks. Each week I'd say I was going to definately go to church but then each week i'd make up an excuse as to why I couldn't or shouldn't go. I was scared to death to go alone and was afraid what others would think of me. Well today, even though we got a ton of snow dumped on us last night and the roads were HORRIBLY icy this morning, I went anyway. You know what? I woke up, looked outside at the roads and said I wasn't going to go to church and that i'd go NEXT week (see a pattern here? LOL). But then I had a cup of coffee and sat down and something (or someone.. Jesus!) spoke to me and told me not to worry, to stay calm, and just go. So I did. I hit the icy, snow covered roads and made my way to church. When I got there, I was so amazed at the reception I recieved from everyone.. and yet none of those people knew me at all. The lady I'd spoke to in email sat with me and introduced me to everyone there and then we attended a discussion group afterwards about the topic of the sermon we just heard. Everyone hugged me as they left and made me feel so at home. (I was Lutheran as a child and had never been to a Baptist church before this).
So I guess that's my mini testimony. And I posted this here mainly for lil_angel. I just wanted her to know that I can totally relate to what she is going through. If you need to talk to someone in your same position you can email me and i'll be happy to learn and grow with you. Just let me know if you need my email address!!

Also, I signed up to take the Alpha course at the church starting Feb. 6th. I am so excited about getting started that I can hardly contain myself. I am so eager to learn about Jesus.

Well I finally went to church last night!!! YAY!!! :D I went all by myself and I didn’t know anyone and man was it scary!!! But I met a whole heap of lovely people who made me feel right at home. I can’t believe that it took me so long to get the courage up to go!! I even got a little pack for new Christians. It had in it lots of info about the church and Christianity, a pen (which is really funky, it’s blue that looks like purple and green in different lights J) and a NIV bible (just a NT, Psalms and Proverbs). It was a great experience and I am really glad I went!!! :pink: I just can't believe it took me 2-3 months to actually go!!! :p
