Does your Meeting use clearness committees for membership? I am very interested in the clearness committee process, although they seem to be entirely unheard-of in my Yearly Meeting.

</Quaker digression>

The description I've got says they did. When I originally wrote in, they said "take a membership packet, read faith and practice, and let us know if you're still interested". It's been about a year and I'm now pretty sure. I was too sick to go the last two weeks, and I'm missing church.

Clearness committees for lots of stuff. I may get to go through a couple of them; for instance, spouse and I might some day like to have a church recognize our marriage. (She's typeless-Christian, not Quaker, and doesn't go to Meeting at least partially because she's got full-blown ADHD and simply can't sit still for an hour.)

Very cool! :cool:

I think clearness committees for marriage is one of the greatest gifts the Friends could offer the American church at large at this point in time. I am really seriously interested in this, and if you choose to go through the process, I'd really appreciate a summary of any of your experiences you feel comfortable sharing. I had never before thought of it as being used to have the church recognize an already-existing marriage. That is a very interesting concept, too.
