• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I know that an Ed just like many other issues need to be delt with on a spiritual level. What do you do when your church feels that you need to deal with your ED that way and that way only? And when you turn to the doctors and a counselor that isn't with in the church but liscenced and has experience with treatment of ED's the women from church that were trying to help tell you that they are giving up. And they are know longer there as support to you. How do you deal with it on the spiritual end? Whay can't people that it is complex and needs to be delt with spiritually and medically? I feel that I have lost my spiritual support. I'm not good at trust or letting people in. How do you find some one else to trust and is it worth it?

An ED has many aspects that need to be treated. Physically, yes. Emotionally, yes. Spiritually, yes. You can't "fix" it by healing the spiritual side of it but leaving the emotional and physical side untouched. And vise versa.

I'm sorry you aren't getting the support you need. Ideally, IMO, you need to be seeing a doctor and/or therapist, as well as a pastor/priest/church counsellor who can help you through the different aspects of the illness. I don't understand how the women at your church cannot see that it's not a purely spiritual problem - God gave us doctors and therapists to help heal our bodies, as well as pastors and priests to help guide us.

I'm not sure how you could approach this. Have you sat down with them and explained what you need to help yourself? Don't stop going to the doctor simply because you are getting an adverse reaction from the women - you need to make sure that you are taking the steps to get healthy, recover and stay recovered. Be strong, be confident. I will be praying for you. :prayer:

It is such a shame that your church support is ignorant in this way. I have been blessed with much prayer support from my pastoral staff since beginning eating disorder treatment. They understand the three-fold aspect of eating disorders and believe all three components must be addressed. Some people, like those in your church, are very ignorant.

What to do? Pray and ask the Lord to bring someone into your life who understands.

Hugs,
Trish
