I've always loved the Chronicles of Narnia, but haven't read any of the books in quite a few years. I recently purchased a one volume soft cover edition and just started reading yesterday. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to see the movie yet, but hope to soon.

I liked the movie but the book is much much better. I don't think they really showed the God characteristics of Aslan enough and they made the Queen braver and bolder than she really was. One scene I'm especially thinking of is when Aslan speaks with the Queen alone and agrees to die for Edmund. When she asks him "How will I know your promise will be kept?" in the movie he roars at her and she falls back into her seat but in the books she turns tail and RUNS for her life. I like that better because it shows how the Devil has to be very careful around God and, like in Job, has to ask God permission before he can do anything. But overall I did like the movie- I loved the Beavers and the Wolves.

The movie was made by Disney. What do you expect? It would have been awesome to show her running away like in the book though.

I got the Chronicles edition, as well, and read "The Magician's Nephew" in 2 days after seeing Narnia. The movie was fantastic!!! I recommend it to anyone!
My wife cried through the entire film, after she discovered the biblical parallels.

I'm already half-way through TLTW&TW, and so far the movie follows the book to a big 'T', with some minor changes, like:

In the book = the children loved the professor and enjoyed his company from the first day they arrived
In the movie = the children were told NOT to disturb the professor

In the book = all the children hid in the wardrobe, from the group touring the home
In the movie = the children hid there when a baseball was hit through a window, to keep from being found and scolded

All in all, no major changes, and I felt they kept Aslan in the proper Light.

I absolutely loved the movie! Sure, it had some minor plot changes (some of which have already been pointed out), and sure there were a couple technical problems with it (bridge scene, anyone?), but overall, I thought it stayed very faithful to book. And I loved their casting! Not everyone liked Tilda's White Witch, but I'm with the majority in thinking that she was fantastic in the role. And Georgie Henley as Lucy! I mean, wow! I loved Skandar's portrayal of Edmund, too. Edmund can be a difficult role to play, and Skandar pulled it off fantastically.

And just a brief reminder, Disney did NOT make the movie. The company really responsible for making it is Walden Media. :)

You wouldn't happen to know who played Mr. Tumnus, would you? I was just curious as to where I had seen him before, but never could put my finger on it. I thought he did an excellent job of bringing that brief character to life. The casting was above and beyond!
