The problem I have with Chrome, Google and the like; is them using information they glean from my internet surfing habits to push products that may not be the best buys and following me around with ads directing me to sites and businesses that they have connections with.

As that article states:

"Since the release of Internet Explorer 10 in 2012, the latest versions of all major desktop browsers, including Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Safari, score 100/100 and render the test correctly. As of March 2015[update] the most commonly used browser that does not score 100/100 on Acid3, according to StatCounter, is Internet Explorer 8 with about 3% usage share."

If they all pass the grade; the test has lost all it's relevance. It's like if all school kids in a class got perfect grades; the A's would have no meaning. What we need is a test for page loading with a page full of images, lots of different frames, also full of ads and video ads like pages here at CF. Yes different magazines do test of these kinds of pages but I don't know of any net wide standard.

Here's a link where Google says that listening on the mic is just the way they do business on Chrome but they are not loading it into new Chromium 45's---Honest.

Chromium is open-source, so it is obvious whether a closed-source module is loaded into it or not. And due to public backlash that module has been pulled - for now.

Undoubtedly most people will embrace the voice module when its insertion is done in the open rather than the shadows. Or maybe it could simply go open-source. I'm quite sure it will be back.

If you like Chrome but don't trust Google - and no one should trust Google - then I don't see why an independent Chromium derivative with more features and more privacy wouldn't make sense.

Get Ad Blocker Plus (ABP)..no ads "following"you around.
Chromium for me is much more stable and faster than 'Fox.

To have a non-fee internet; I will put up with a small amount of clean (Christian orientated) non-video ads; and if they actually have something I'm interested in; I may click on them. It just shouldn't take over a couple seconds (I've had them take 30) to load a page.

I just downloaded and am 'test-driving' a chromium-based browser called Epic,
which claims to be very focused on privacy.
While I like Firefox, I like the speed I got from Google Chrome.
Hopefully, Epic will be the right mix between speed and security
(though the skeptic in me sometimes wonders if the sites
making the biggest deal out of protecting one's privacy are the
ones I should probably steer clear of, lol!).

You can set ABP to allow some ads...
To me,PUs just slow the entire internet experience down.

I've been using Chromium. I never found it hard to use, but it was a bit of a learning curve coming from Firefox. I've had a few plugin issues, but other than that, I haven't had too much trouble. I'm still using it, after all.

Aaaaand I'm back to Firefox again, because, due (I think)
to Epic's hyper-secure platform, there's only a handful
of Epic-based add-ons, none of which I use.

Firefox for the win... for now.

As for pu's*; they not only slow you down when they open; but also when a pop-up blocker blocks a pop-up from popping, it slows the popcorn/show too.

*they do have a pu smell to them.

That was the fastest test of a browser in internet history! Aaaaaand I spent the last two hours looking into Epic, read two or three reviews about it; so I would be able to have an informed opinion of it; and then you don't even use it Just kidding.

What I did see of Epic; was they had so many things they didn't allow, blocked or just didn't have as a feature; it's a wonder it starts up; let alone runs across the net.

It does seem that Firefox is the favorite at CF and the rest of the net; and it has been a few years since I used it (lost a computer while using it, due to a virus; but that may have been the choice of virus checker that was available at the time) so I may take another look. Any pointers before I down/load?

Thanks for giving the update so soon; so I can quit reading reviews about Epic. Boy, talk about ad chocked web pages "makeuseof".com sure has it's
share--CF pales in comparison.

True that. That was the one thing that I noticed from
the get-go was that, due to it's protective blocking
processes, it took longer for pages to load, eliminating
one of the main draws of Chrome which was speed in
this area.

None I can think of.

No matter what browsers I've used in the past, I always
end up returning to Firefox or some derivative thereof
(such as Pale Moon). The only thing I find it not as
useful for is online games such as Bejeweled Blitz -- too
laggy. Other than that, I find it very user-friendly, and
there is plenty of room for addons.

Any problems with laggy/slow insertion of text in reply boxes such as this? That is the only problem I'm having now; with IE11 and CF, since the reformation here at CF; altho it has been getting better/less frequent. Thanks for your input.
