  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A couple of facts about Christmas,

1. Mass is for dead people. Christ is forever living.

2. Christ was not born on Dec 25th. No evidence from the bible supports this. He was born in late September/early october time period. See the proof in http://www.christianforums.com/t2432376-merry-christmas-from-obob-catholic-forum.html&page=2#post21672309

3. Dec 25th or around that time of the year is Winter Solstic. It means from this day on, the length of day begins to increase and length of darkness begins to decrease.
The pagans used to worship on this day the birth of Sun god and the pagan messiah Tamus.

Do what your heart tells to do. Jesus promised this: "my sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."

Some parts of Christmas are pagan, and although the date is not Jesus' birthday, I enjoy taking out a section of the year to celebrate the fact that he came to this earth for us. Christmas is only one day, but the christmas season is a few weeks to a few months, depending on the person. I enjoy Christmas and think it is good with family, when focused on Jesus, and not the gifts you will get. Although I do completely understand why some may not want to celebrate Christmas since everyday of every year is an opportunity to celebrate God's love.

Christmas should not be observed by any christian in the style the world does. the date, the tree, the decorations, the lights, the ornaments etc... are all Pagan. But in the spirit of Christ we can use the holiday to be a witness for Christ and to give as Christ gave, in meeting the needs of people. This time of year is emotionally hard and financially hard for many people and their hopes are very low.

the thing is I was raised NOT celebrating any pagan holidays. I was a Jehovahs witness. I am not saying they have it right and there is no section for them. (most would never argue their point because they have the TRUTH. I grew up to appreciate Jesus and HIS sacrifice. I think all these holidays make people possesive and greedy. The whole saying be in the world not of the world rings true. GOD bless. (ps) I wont even stand for the national anthem because they did it iin praise of a country which is a form of Idolatry. The reason I dont think they are right is they disfellowship people and you need to get years with them before you can be baptised. I read in the bible ( I forget the text) but it said along the lines of " if anyone should rebuke you for my sake to beware of these individuals, stay away from them" GOD bless and have a wonderful day.
