  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hello from your friendly RC! :)

How many of the Orthodox faithful have a Christmas tree, wreaths, and other decorations? Do you celebrate Christmas on December 25th or on January 6th? Does it change from jurisdiction to jurisdiction or from country to country?

I hope everyone has a peaceful, graceful advent!

Thoughts?

God bless!

Riley!

Have a blessed advent!

Absolutely, we love decorating!

My parish celebrates the Nativity on December 25th, but some Orthodox churches celebrate according to the Old Calendar (January 7).

Everybody celebrates December 25th, some just disagree what day is December 25th (some people, mostly Russian, inexplicably cling to a superstitious notion that January 7th is in fact December 25th).

We had an artificial tree in Russia. Here, we hang a few decorations on the big tree outside, as a sort-of Christmas tree.
We celebrate both. As someone raised in the US, Dec 25th will always be Christmas to me. But it’s kind of ruined by the fact that on this side of the world, it’s a workday. I push the English carols and traditions from about now until after the New Year. On Jan 7th, we do the Russian and Serbian/Balkan things. (Rozhdestvo/Bo
