  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I decided to create a family heirloom...lol also persuaded my friend that this is a great idea so now we are looking for ideas for perfect Chrsistmas stocking...:D

I think i want to use patchwork and also some of the patches i want to use cross-stitched canvas with card motifs on (teddies and christmas trees, etc) also consiering using aplique... But well how to put that all together here is the big problem ....lol

Have you made your own Christmas stockings? Or do you have one that Grandma made? Come on! Share here!!! (time to show off ;))

Also all ideas are welcome!!

Lots of hugz to everyone! Love, deornie

Hi, your idea sounds great, and can become a cherished heirloom easily. A couple of things you may want to try:

> use fabrics from clothes or other belongings you love but can't use anymore
> cross stitch pieces will really enhance your patchwork, good idea!
> turn your patchwork on point for a nice look
> be careful to make the toe of your stocking large enough ( I made one early on that ended up with too small a toe and it looked awful)
> making a patchwork means it's self lined :)

Have fun, CIJ

Ooooh, patchwork sounds interesting! No, only the store bought fuzzy kind I buy, and then embroider them with red and green embroidery thread, and add sequins and beads to make individual fancy designs, and then sequins or beads to spell out the person's name on the top. Also, I place ribbon bows here and there for girls.

Make your own template by drawing on a large piece of tracing paper, or even newspaper will work. Make designs on the one side, and sew them together. Depending on how large you want to make them, the larger the easier it is to embroider them after they are sewn together, otherwise, sew them together after you embroidery them. The sewing and crafts stores usually sell some very interesting Christmas materials around the season. Keep checking them for availability of Christmas colors, and designs.

My dogs and cat have Christmas stockings, my kids have Christmas stockings, and they are all larger than mine and hubbie's stockings. :) I did make them myself, so only have me to blame for this shortsightedness.
