  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So who all is ready to look at Christmas lights this year? I know it's only October, but I can't wait until after Thanksgiving (in the US) when people start putting lights on their houses and in their yards. I really want to go this year and I think I will. It's been something I've loved since I was a little girl.

anyone else share in the joy of looking at lights?

I am very excited to get the lights and other decorations out and put up! If it was my decision they would of been put up a week ago, but I hold off cause I know people go crazy when they see stuff like that up too early. Seems like Thanksgiving Day is going to take forever to get here!

too funny!! my neighborhood has a contest to see who can have the biggest electric bill during Christmas. Since I am alone this year I don't know what I am going to do about the lights.

It's fun to ride around and look at em. One of our traditions is to come home through downtown on Christmas eve on the way back from my grandmothers to see the lights.

There was one guy near here who owned a farm and used to do a whole little valley full of lights. Like a 100 ft tall Christmas tree made of lights, decorated barns and everything else, with a little path so you could drive through it. He stopped doing it a couple of years ago though :(

Yeah Yeah I got those crazy light that get tangled up. and are a pain to hang. Will need to see what mood I'll be in.
I usually end up looking like this when I get done.

Seriously though I love to drive around and look at them, especially if it's snowing.

Nothing is better then to break out the cross country skis and see them. I just wish a group would go out and sing Christmas carols too.

A true story when I worked retail sales one year a little boy and his mother came up to me and said Mister I see you have movies and books about holidays. whose brithday is it? I answered him in this way "You know people today don't want to know about the real reason about Christmas, They are stuck on trying to find the best price for things and how much stuff you can get. But you and I know the truth that God gave us the best gift. His son who died for our sins." His mother gave me a strange look and wished me a Merry Christmas. I wonder to this day what they talked about in that car after paying me for the items they bought.

:amen: They talked, and you planted the seed. People often times pick up on the Message more than they let on.

When I was little I can remember my grandfather telling me that O Holy Night was His favorite Christmas carol. I had just started piano and I asked my teacher if she could teach it to me. This was in July and by Christmas I could play it. I never let him hear when I practiced it. That Christmas morning I told him I had a gift for him but I could'nt wrap it and I played it for him. That was the first and only time I ever saw him cry. I know that I will carry that in my heart forever. I learned that year that Christmas was more than rushing around the mall and agonizining over that perfect present, it was all about God's love for us and our love for each other.
