A gift that I've given to my best friend when she got engaged a few weeks after me was a planning folder. I didn't buy one of those pre packaged bridal planners, I went to a good office supply store and found a pretty folder, with many pockets and loops, then in them I put stuff she would 'need' through the planning. Some heart shaped post its, a pretty pen, a card with my phone number for emergencies, some budgeting paper, a pencil and eraser in heartshape, a few postage stamps and envelopes, a package of tissues, a card with the serenity prayer, a tiny roll on with soothing lavender oil and a few leafs from a sudoku booklet to keep her busy when she is waiting in line for paperwork to be done. I also put a notepad in there, a few sheetprotectors (so she can slip in bills, sugestions etc. without having to have a perforator with her, and in the first sheetprotector I put in big gold letters like the hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy: "DON'T PANIC".
I also added a letter. I had gotten engaged a few months earlier, so I 'welcomed her to the club of insanity', told her to relax, gave her some good pointers that I remembered from when I started out, told her how happy I was for her and that whenever she needed me to help with the wedding, I'ld be there.
You can adjust the contents to her nature. Let your wife dive back into her own planning experience and think what she all needed to drag around with her. Perhaps add a bridal magazine, or a cake magazine, or an offer to help with something. Make it funny and heartfelt.
My best friend used that folder all throughout her engagement and a lot of the things came in handy, plus it always reminded her that I was there for her when she took it out.
