  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As for "Christmas" crafts, I don't make them. I don't like putting tons of time in something that is displayed for such a short time. (My grandma is like that too.)

I want to make grandma a cross stich about when she's in heaven being heaven's seamstress and mending angel britches when the little angels fall and tear their overalls. (Not theologicall correct, but its really cute!)

For my aunt, I have a cross stitch I want to make on a sweatshirt that is of cat eyes and a mouth so it looks like the whole sweatshirt is a cat.

Right now, though I need to get a pair of baby booties knitted for some friends who are expecting next month.

Every year I make several ornaments, all the same kind. I keep one for myself, two others go t each of my children for their collections, and I give one or two for gifts. Last year's ornament was an old spoon in which i bent the handle all the way back til it formend a loop. Them I painted white snowman faces on the spoon and added fabric hats and scarves. I also put on some twisted wire arms with felt mittens. Those were my favorites!

I also like to do ornaments. In the past I have embelished round ornaments.

One year I did kinda a marbelized effect.
by spraying gold spray pain into a large cantainer, old milk jug, filled with water. The paint made a film on top of the water. Then quickly dipped the ornament into the water spray paint, and the spray paint stuck to the ornament with a marbelized pattern.

Lasts year I just glued super fine glitter to plastic bulbs, oraments.

THis year not sure what I am going to do yet!

I like that marbleized ornament idea. So, you just sprayed the paint onto the water and dipped and that's it? Sounds easy! Would it work if you were to use 2 or more colors? Then did you decorate them further or did you leave them as they were?

They are easy, I ended up messy up the first couple, until I got it all figured out. Once the paint gets clumpy in the water, I used a toothpick to skim off the excess paint and started again. Also work in a vented room because the fumes from the paint gets strong. And have a place to hang the onaments to dry. I tied string to the back of two chairs and hung them there to dry.

Once you get going though you can get a lot done. That year they were the only ornaments on our tree. Besides lights and ribbon.

I am sure that you could any color or combo of colors. I went with gold and used different color bulbs.

For two years I headed up a Christmas ornament exchange on another board (No, i am NOT volunteering to do so here! LOL!)

What we did is everyone picked a quick Christmas craft (someone did snowmen) and we made 13 of them. There were 12 in the group, and everyone sent their ornaments to me, and then I put one in each box and sent it back out to everyone. One lady dropped out, so we had 2 extra sets of 10 ornaments. We had already decided to surprise the owner of that board with a box of ornaments, and we decided to sent the extras to a lady who was fighting cancer.

We did this 2 years and it was a lot of fun. The first year I made angels out of plastic canvas and ribbon (somewhat similar to my cross but different than the pattern I'm looking for). The second year I made cats out of felt, and a candy cane was their tail. We had some really cute ideas.

I make Christmas Candle ornaments. I've started making "glow in the dark" candles as gifts for friends.

Ooohh, I would be interested in an ornament exchange! Would the ornaments have to be home-made or store bought? Or would that even matter?

I wanna try the marbleized ornaments! Sounds easy. I tried making some ornaments last week that looked easy..but it was harder than I thought! (So far I only have 2..and they aren't finished yet. I bought the wrong paint! I was going to put gold swirls on them.)
