  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Christians What do you think?

Hi all

I am some what new to this forum, so I just wanted to ask you all, Why do you think we are full of people here that do not believe in God or Jesus, Because this is a Christian forum, it just seems strange to me. How did a Christian site attract so many people, who are off doing there own thing on different topics that have nothing to do with God at all. What happen? any one have any ideas on this, there are not many really wanting to know the truth about God, most ( not all ) are to busy trying to catch you in a statement. Hope you can shed some light on this. Thanks

Personally, I think that most have a deep desire for something bigger. Most don't admit it, but as Christians, we're confronted daily with people everywhere who don't believe. We are to be the Light in the world. We are to show those people Christ through our own example. Christianity is not some exclusive club that only the 'cool kids' belong to. God wants the whole world to know that EVERYONE is worth saving. And I think this is a wonderful forum for doing just that.

I'm glad the atheists and people of other religions are here. Not only are we given the chance to witness, but also, they force us to examine our own beliefs. And by asking us those tough questions, hopefully, we, ourselves, grow closer to the Truth by giving them the answers.

Love, Heather

I'm with Heather. I think lots of them come here because they are drawn to the light. A small but obnoxious percentage come to harass, denigrate, spit on Christians, but it's getting easier to find these guys out and call them on it. Persevere, Christians to the end!

While there are likely to be as many different answers to this question as there are non-believing posters on the board, it may be possible to generalize and state that many of these people are former Christians who haven't been able to shake off their beliefs with any degree of certainty. Even if the proofs of Christianity no longer seem plausible, no other system of belief of disbelief is absolutely certain either. Christianity cannot be as easily dismissed as some might want it to be.
Athiesm itself cannot serve as a philosophy of life. Once the idea of God has been rejected, then what? Secular society has so far not been able to provide any convincing alternatives to its Christian roots. Some athiest may state that what they now believe in is pluralism, but this is tantamount to saying that they believe in a society where buddhists can seek Nirvana, Moslems can bow down before Allah, Hindus can celebrate their festival of lights, but for the athiest, what is there? Certainly there is still family and friends, and bowling on Monday nights, but the human condition is peculiar in that there is a seemingly innate tendancy to seek to continuously transcend ourselves, and to seek out the totality of our existence. By limiting what we believe in to only what can be known with certainty, we are left unsatisfied.
In this way, CF, with its multitude of different forums is answering a primal need not just for Christians, but for everybody. Especially when a person no longer believes, the urge to believe in something becomes stronger than ever.

Some people do it for the same reason some Christians proselytize--because they believe that they've found the truth, and the truth is really important, and they want to share what they've found with other people.

Some people do it because they've been hurt by Christianity or Christians and want to take out their anger by attacking people's religions.

Some people do it because they want to represent their viewpoint as a valid one, because they're sick of seeing atheism equated with demon worship and selfishness and lack of logic. The same reason I continue to stay on these boards, as a liberal wingnut, when the norm here is to be extremely conservative. ;)

There are no doubt other reasons that haven't been listed here...

Maybe it's just me, but non-Christian's will be drawn to the things of God as much as criminals to a police station. The gospel is both foolish and offensive. I think they come here to show how foolish it is. Many followed Jesus, but the majority were there for the free ride. I do not believe many are led here out of a guilty conscience, nor has it been my experience that those at a Christian forum were actually Christian. I also think the term Christian is loosing it's meaning, and now everyone who thinks they are a good person thinks they are Christian.

Read the parable of the Tares and the Wheat. It is a fact of life in this world until the Lord returns.
I consider it a priviledge to have this forum where people can share and grow. God isn't limited by it, and His Word still does not return to Him withsoutaccomplishing His will.

Thank you all for your posts, I did read every one. I would like us all to be one in Christ. Because Gods word is Sharper then a two edge SWORD, I guess I will have to use it. LOL For I will help any person who is needing help or looking for Christ, but for the others who wish to use a Christian Forum to spread their Witch Craft, ect. I have little patience. Life is to short. The SWORD is NEVER meant for our brothers in Christ, no matter what church you belong too. Thank you all, and I hope you are getting your Swords sharpen, for this site really needs it.

I believe that all the posts have somewhat valid points but i would have to agree with those that say people are drawn to christianity and it's forums. I know one of the people i spoke to on here wasn't a christian, but comes so that they won't have to deal with the smut of secular chats and posts. And something i have found in the past is that Christianity may be offensive to some but i don't think that it is necessarily christanity they are offended by. People are offended more so Christians themsleves. Something to chew on i guess.

Are non-Christians allowed to post in this forum? If not, maybe this should be moved to a forum that they can post in. There is no way to find out the answer for sure unless we ask them. We can speculate all we want, but they know there motives better than we do.

Per her thread title, MinDach asked for the opinions of Christians.

Sort of like saying that I would like humankind a lot if it weren't for the people.:p

I think Ghandi (whom I have a lot of respect for) said something similar about Christianity. Of course, if the saying gets turned around and the same thing gets said about Hindus, it ends up sounding vaguely racist.

It is my experience that many (not all) non Christians find our beliefs to be silly. One of my non Christian friends kinda summed it up for me: He inquired about coming to worship with my wife and I...not to learn about Christ, but to engage in debate with other church goers. He stated that he wanted to "plant a seed of doubt" into some believers. I think misery loves company. The truth is, while he may have bad intentions, he may come to realize that there is hope and peace in salvation. Even my pastor, before conversion attended a Christian Rock concert for the sole purpose of planting a seed of doubt into the body of Christ. Jesus Christ works in mysterious ways. That night he found Christ (much to his dismay). Now he is a light in the darkness, doing his part to convert many non believers. Praise God!

Though (as usual) I wouldn't phrase it the way he does, I think Svt4Him had some good points. But my experience has been that a lot of non-Christians are interested in what it is that Christians believe, and why, for any of a variety of reasons -- and some are seekers who simply have not been granted the grace of faith yet and are opening their minds to grasp what it is that they're feeling a sense of being led to.

And I'd like to add one thing for the folks who respond to them, a quote from Abraham Lincoln: "The best way to destroy your enemy is to make him your friend instead."
