  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Christians only need to vote one more time

A highlight from Trump’s speach:

"I don't care how, but you have to get out and vote and again," he added. "Christians, get out and vote just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what? It will be fixed. It will be fine. You won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians."

He's going to save us from democracy.

Odd how "democracy" seems to refer to keeping the Democrats in power.

Does it? I don't know that. His statement is alarming, taken at face value. But can we trust anything he says?

Yet in your comment you seem convinced that 1. Trump means what he says, and 2. That he means a particular spin given by Democrat partisans. If you cannot trust what Trump says, then spinning what he says is wasted effort, isn't it?

I can think of two interpretations.

First, he is planning on leaving office after 4 years and doesn’t care at all about who gets elected after him. This implies that it is all about him getting power, and has nothing to do with the ‘good’ of the country.

A second option is that he doesn’t plan on leaving office in 4 years. Given how he behaved after the last election and how he still lies about it, him trying to stay in power doesn’t seem completely impossible.

Both seem consistent with his character. The first is the most probable, and is certainly what I hope he means.

Thank God we don't live by democratic rule.
There is no guarantee that we remain a real democracy forever. Look what happened in Hungary, whose autocratic leader is a darling of Trump’s movement.

Did they cut it off before the part where he says, "I'm not Christian"?

To me it sounded like he said “I’m a Christian”. It is a meeting of Christians so what else would he say?

He is like Orban in that he identifies as a Christian, seldom attends church, and has used “defending Christianity” as a sales pitch. Many Christians clearly believe that the ends justify the means, so this can be quite effective.

Yeah, I thought it was a pretty good comment, too. I think he would love to be president forever. More than that, he would love to be worshipped as savior of the people.

My point is that nothing he says can be taken seriously. Was he saying he plans on ending democracy? Who knows? Maybe he just meant he's going to solve all the problems for his Christian voters. That's not going to happen. I mean, let's face it, he's not trustworthy or a person of integrity. I guess we can take whatever he says any way we want because it doesn't matter. It's all just mouth noises.

He could just be saying, "I'm going to fix everything." I take it he doesn't think too much before he speaks. If that's what he meant, it's a stupid thing to say but also par for the course.

I doubt he only has four years in mind. He probably doesn't think he will die anytime soon. He's one of those people that must be at the top over everyone else or he doesn't feel like he's of much value.

We are not in a "real democracy" now, nor do I think (and hope) we ever will be.

This video is 58 minutes long. Right now, I am listening closely to it in order to find the timestamps for the quote from the OP article. I want to find the timestamps so that I can establish the context around what Trump said concerning Christians and voting.

It starts at 54:20. I had a feeling it was something he was ending the speech with.

This clip starts at the 30 minute mark and Trump talks about the SCOTUS, abortion, and Christians voting before changing over to talk about Kamala Harris at around the 39 minute timestamp mark in his speech.

Here, the clip of his speech starts at the 53:30 minute mark. Please take notice that his appeal to Christians voting comes immediately after he talks about CRT, schools and "transgender insanity." Also, the audience there applauded and cheered during that clip about voting and I hear laughter and chuckling immediately after Trump talked about Christians not needing to vote anymore after this election. Afterwards, I loved the way that he concluded his speech starting at about the 55 minute mark of this video.

At 54:45-46, did DJT say "I'm a Christian" or did he say "I'm not Christian"? Hard to tell.

I heard, "I'm a Christian." That is also what the closed captioning in the video put forth as well.
