  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We are charged to protect our families--but does this mean that we ought to own a gun...or 12...to do so? You know, one for every occasion!

Should we have a PLAN to protect our home and family?

Should we train, and train our family members on proper and safe gun use?

If an intruder breaks into your home, should you shoot him in order to protect your family--or give him a chance and try talking to him to see if he may change his mind first?

What about concealed carrying a weapon? Is this totally out of the question, or should we carry concealed to protect our family or other innocent folks when we're out and about. You know what they say: "When seconds matter, COPs are only minutes away!".

Does your church purchase insurance? Isn't that a lack of faith--why don't they just trust God?!

What's the difference between exercising faith and sticking your head in the sand?

What are your thoughts on Owning a gun(s)?

I own a few. I hunt. I protect.

A man who does not provide for his family is worse than an unbeliever.

Food and shelter are only part of my provision. I also must provide a safe and secure environment. I would be in serious error to abdicate that responsibility to a government, especially one that does not share my convictions and values.

With strict gun laws in Australia...it seems only those who use guns for sport, recreation, work and who live on farms have them. We have one of the lowest crime rates in the world.

I think they are extremely dangerous to have in the house...especially with kids around! I don't own a gun and I don't know anyone who owns a gun except my father in law who is a cop and who's guns are kept in a gun safe.

Guns are just not that big in australia and I'm glad!

As for protecting one's family...one would only need to protect one's family if one lived in a country with lapse gun laws!

No - guns do more harm than good.

Should we have a PLAN to protect our home and family?

Yes we have locks on our doors...phones and a dog!

Should we train, and train our family members on proper and safe gun use?

Why? If we don't have guns then we don't need to learn how to use them right?

If an intruder breaks into your home, should you shoot him in order to protect your family--or give him a chance and try talking to him to see if he may change his mind first?

Well...I'd go and get my dog! And for all those who claim they keep their guns locked up away from children...by the time they go and get that gun out of the safe - they'd be dead anyway! The only way that a gun will protect is if it is on your person...and that is soooooo dangerous!

What about concealed carrying a weapon? Is this totally out of the question, or should we carry concealed to protect our family or other innocent folks when we're out and about. You know what they say: "When seconds matter, COPs are only minutes away!".

Nope nope nope! Not needed in australia anyway...because of our strict gun laws in the first place.

Does your church purchase insurance? Isn't that a lack of faith--why don't they just trust God?!

Insurance? Like home and contents insurance? well yeh...we can have faith in God and still have a back up...that's why we wear seatbelts whilst riding in a car.

What's the difference between exercising faith and sticking your head in the sand?

Do not tempt the Lord thy God. I think we should do the best we can, within reason.

What are your thoughts on Owning a gun(s)?

Don't own one...never seen one...don't wish to see one...don't know anyone who has one...and I think they are the cause of high crime rates in some country...especially when nearly every man and his dog owns a gun. It's sick and twisted!

It is not sick and twisted to want to protect yourself.

Yes,I am a sportsman too..

They took away guns in the uk,now crime is way way up..

I wont mention names, but there is a sister here on the forum, who lives in a crime rampant country, and she cant wait to own a gun,to protect herself.

You are welcome to use a baseball bat, a lamp,a shoe, or something like that.;)

I got a 45 acp,that at just one glance,will make a coward out of an invader.:D

I meant...coming from a country where it's legal to own a gun so every man and his dog owns a gun so crime rates are higher because everyone has a gun, and everyone has a gun to protect themselves from everyone else who has a gun. Too me, it just seems so twisted!
naaaa
gun control only disarms the law abiding citizen, not the bad guys..

Don't need to...I have a dog :)

Since the new legislation in gun laws in 1996...There has been a sharp decline in gun related crimes. Gun laws work!

Any bunch of bad guys can kill your dog in seconds..

But what do you think would happen,if they broke in and saw this...;)

The bad guys steal the guns from the good guys! If the good guys don't have guns to steal then that leaves the bad guys pretty much gun less!

Pinetree - I have 5 kids I don't need a gun in my house with kids around!
sure, everyone should keep their guns safe from kids..

In the us,more and more women, and old people are learning to use their instincts, and learn how to protect themselves.

If a home invasion happened,a broomstick is insufficient.^_^
